I make sure to differentiate my lessons to suit the needs of the learner. An example of this is including stretch and challenge activities for more able learners. I like to use a range of different activities to make learning more engaging.
I’m a qualified teacher. I completed my PGCE in Religious Education in July 2018 and have been doing supply and tutoring since. I have a BA (Hons) Philosophy and Sociology degree.
I am a dedicated professional who is highly motivated and committed to developing teaching and learning.
My studies to date have provided me with a secure grounding of knowledge to make an effective teacher. Some of the philosophy units I studied at university include Greek Philosophy, ethics, metaphysics, and Philosophy of Religion. Studying Philosophy has helped me to develop the skills to analyse critically, question thoroughly, and to write and think rigorously. Imparting these skills to my students I believe is imperative to developing inquisitive and reflective learners, enabling them to challenge their own moral perceptions. The subject of Sociology has further put this into context by reinforcing my understanding of diversity within my own, and broader communities. Both disciplines have helped reinforce my aptitude for positively engaging and motivating learners from diverse backgrounds and social contexts. Furthermore, my studies have taught me to be unprejudiced, tolerant, and open-minded; all of which are important virtues to not only have as a teacher, but to also impart to my students.
One of the key strengths throughout my teacher training has been my subject knowledge and planning. I devote a considerable amount of time to lesson planning and try to ensure that I consistently bring new pedagogies into my practice. I have taken a particular interest in incorporating Kagan strategies into my lessons, as they have shown to not only raise attainment levels, but also have successfully engaged my students. Ensuring that learning is accessible to all groups and abilities is of great importance to me and I aim to apply this in my teaching continuously.
