Rachael - Acton - Piano

Methodology

Hello my name is Rachael I live in West London and really enjoy teaching. I am looking for pupils to share the enjoyment I get out of playing a musical instrument.

- Which subject(s) do you teach?

I provide clarinet, recorder, beginner piano lessons.
I can also provide theory lessons to enable completion of grade 5 theory

- Tell me about your qualifications.

I graduated from the Royal College of Music in 2014 with a Master in Performance degree on clarinet.
I gained a Bachelor of Music degree in performance on clarinet in 2012 - during my undergraduate degree I completed a professional skills instrumental teaching module
I have a ABRSM Performance Diploma on clarinet
I also have ABRSM grade 8 distinction on clarinet and grade 6 on Piano.

- How much do you charge?

For beginners half an hour lesson at £20.00
More advanced pupils £40.00 per hour
Theory £35 per hour

- Where do you teach?

I will travel to the pupils house making it convenient for the pupils. I currently live in Acton and teach in the following boroughs: Hounslow, Ealing, Hammersmith & Fulham and Kensington.
Alternatively if you would prefer to have lessons at my home that can be arranged.

- When are you available?

I am currently looking to fill up my free slots on Thursday evening, Wednesday during the morning and afternoon.

- Which ages and levels do you teach?

I teach from age 5 upwards, Beginners to advanced grades. Children and Adults!
On clarinet I am currently teaching beginners up to grade diploma level.
On piano beginner up to grade 2
On recorder beginner up to grade 4
Theory up to Grade 5.

- Which qualifications do you prepare your students for?

I can prepare the children for ABRSM Grade examinations but this is optional, I also teach children and adults who are just wanting to learn for fun.

- Describe your arrangements for online tutoring.

I am happy to do skype lessons if you would prefer to have lessons online.

- Do you have a personal message for students?

Playing a musical instrument has to be enjoyable and a lot of fun, something should be gained from every lesson!
Lots of teacher encouragement is key to success and I believe the pupil must have a say in what they want to learn and their input in the lesson is extremely important.
One to one lessons are a fantastic way to learn an instrument, for a teacher it is a very rewarding way to teach as you can get to really know the pupil you are teaching and get their personalities to shine through when playing an instrument. One to one lessons are so important as they enable the pupil to gain a good technique and enhance musicality through the attention the teacher can give to a single pupil.
I really enjoy teaching, it is my passion and has been what I wanted to pursue a career in after finishing my masters degree.

Experience

- What kind of experience do you have?

I have a wide range of teaching and performance experience. Apart from providing one to one tuition around West London, I have been teaching in a number of schools. I teach whole class clarinet and recorder lessons for Ealing Music Service, I teach the music makers programme for Richmond Music Trust teaching key stage 1 children music skills. I teach for Hounslow Music service providing whole class clarinet and recorder lessons as well as one to one lessons at Belmont Primary School in Chiswick. I teach one to one clarinet lessons for the Hackney Youth Orchestra Saturday School in Stoke Newington.

I have just been appointed as the clarinet lecturer at Morley College where I will be teaching clarinet to adults in small groups and conducting Morley Winds.

Performance experience
I have given solo performances and chamber recitals around London and the North East, I have also performed principal clarinet with the Young Sinfonia at The Sage, Gateshead as well as Principal Clarinet with The RCM Philharmonic and RCM Symphony Orchestra. I was one of the first musicians to perform with a wind quintet in Hall One of The Sage Gateshead, which was televised on the BBC Culture Show. I also recorded the Brahms Trio for a BBC Radio 2 programme presented by Howard Goodall.

- Do you have an up-to-date DBS (Disclosure & Barring Service, formerly CRB) Certificate?

I have up to date DBS certificates for Ealing and Hounslow Music Service and for Richmond Music Trust.

- Where and with whom did you train?

During my studies at the Royal College of Music I studied clarinet with: Richard Hosford, Timothy Lines, Barnaby Robson and Janet Hilton.
I studied E flat Clarinet with Peter Davies and Bass Clarinet with Michael Harris and Paul Richards.

I have participated in Master Classes with: Maximiliano Martin, Joy Farrall, Michael Whight, Mark Van Di Weil, Joan Enric Lluna, Chris Richards, Jozsef Balogh and Richard Stoltzman
