I'm a former actor and BBC-trained director with many years' experience teaching drama and EFL to people of all ages and abilities. I tailor my approach to each individual student to build confidence and achieve the best possible outcome.
- Which subject(s) do you teach?
I tutor for auditions, acting and English as a second anguage.
- Tell me about your qualifications.
I have a degree and vocational actor training from Rose Bruford College. After several years in the acting profession, I joined the BBC's Radio Drama Department, where I specialised in casting and outreach work and then trained as a director/script editor.
For the last decade I have focused on teaching: as well as teaching drama, have taught ESL in a variety of settings to all ages and abilities. I hold the Trinity TESOL Teaching Certificate.
- How much do you charge?
I charge £29 for all one-to-one teaching. Group teaching prices are negotiable.
- Where do you teach?
I usually teach at my home in Guildford, but can sometimes travel to students' homes for daytime lessons. Please contact me to enquire.
- When are you available?
Weekday evenings and Tuesday or Friday daytimes. For audition coaching, other times may be available. I am happy to teach regular lessons or just ad hoc.
- Which ages and levels do you teach?
All ages and levels.

- What kind of experience do you have?
I am an experienced performer and director - I have worked with all levels of ability from complete beginners to award-winning professionals.
Audition coaching is my speciality; having been on both sides of the audition panel, I am uniquely placed to prepare students for acting auditions, and my students have achieved success in auditions for drama school, drama scholarships, youth theatres and professional acting engagements.
I have worked with adults and children of all ages in a variety of settings including schools, youth theatres, community groups and private one-to-one coaching. I also teach Drama for English Language Learning.
I offer coaching for professional and amateur actors as well as drama workshops to develop specific performance skills or just for fun.
I have taught English as a Second Language for over a decade and have experience of teaching in schools and private coaching. I can help with exam preparation; I have taught IELTS, Cambridge ESOL (FCE, PET, KET, etc), Trinity GESE and Japanese University Entrance. I also teach English for Academic Purposes or just to help you build confidence in your spoken and written English.
- Do you have an up-to-date DBS (Disclosure & Barring Service, formerly CRB) Certificate?
- Tell me about some of your current students.
From September, I'll be running a course called Acting for Adults, designed for anyone who loves acting or directing to develop their skills and experiment with different ways of working, away from the pressures of the rehearsal room. Contact me for further information, or see my Facebook page "Guildford Acting Coach".
