Recent graduate in English Language and Literature with mentoring and homeschooling experience, offering to tutor in English.
Methodology
A free introductory session will help me get to know the tutee, including their needs and aims from tuition, and to also build some rapport in order to help create a comfortable and open atmosphere for learning.
From there, sessions will be tailored to suit the tutee's needs, with the appropriate exercises and aims being explained at the beginning of each session in order to prepare and settle the tutee into learning.
My approach to teaching is based on encouraging a growth mindset which builds in tutees self-discipline, resilience and confidence in their learning competence and in their potential.
The aim is always to help a pupil gain skills and confidence in English (and prepare for exams where necessary), while enjoying and retaining their learning.
Experience
Since finishing my undergraduate degree (as a mature student) at Cardiff University this summer, I have been homeschooling my little boy and preparing to start my MSc course.
As well as the information and experience I have gained through conscientious efforts to provide a decent education at home during lockdown, I have also gained experience in roles as a learning mentor for both school pupils and first year university students. These roles provided great training on engaging effectively with learners and on designing suitable material for lessons. With a focus on the creative writing process, I got to plan and lead class sessions and provide guidance and support throughout. The pupils involved ultimately 'graduated' with the presentation of their own short stories, in which they applied the creative writing techniques that they'd learned in the lessons.
