The focus of my tutoring is you, the student. It is my job to identify the gaps in your knowledge, and to eliminate them as efficiently as possible. I then need to teach you to organise that knowledge effectively so that you can pass your exams. I do that by asking you questions and causing you to reflect on what you know, but also by teaching you to ask questions of me. First you must acquire knowledge, then you must reflect critically on it. That is my philosophy.
Very highly commended by St. Hugh's College, Oxford, and Trinity College, Cambridge, for Julia Wood and Robson History Prize entries.
Won school history prize in each of the past four years, as well as the politics prize in Sixth Form.
I am a very academically-minded person. I love the subjects I teach, and so I teach them with passion and enthusiasm. I also love the access that one-on-one sessions give you to the other person. They allow you to really get inside the other person's head, and it is only by doing that that you can make them a better student. So, if you're looking for someone who knows their stuff, and who knows how to communicate it to others, then I'm your man.
Extremely helpful and always incredibly responsive. Could not recommend Joseph more highly.
Really smart guy. He knows exactly what he’s talking about and communicates it clearly
Joseph is one of the most reliable people i know. His punctuality is second to none, whilst being academically sound. I’m sure he has some flaws but not any i can name. Would be a great tutor
Having studied with Joe for many years I would thoroughly recommend him as a tutor. A hard-working student, both passionate and knowledgeable in his subjects, Joe is a great teacher and very easy to work with!
Incredibly patient and well-versed in his field. Joseph's clear, easy-to-follow explanations and made learning a breeze. Lucky to have met him.
He is an exemplary teacher and managed to get me through my a-levels. He is clever, thoughtful, and determined and will ensure the best results possible for all he teaches.
Speaking as a colleague, Joseph’s knowledge of history is near encyclopaedic. Until recently, I was actually unsure what an encyclopaedia was, but as soon as I asked, Joseph did not hesitate to inform me in his usual clear, intellectual manner. In my final internal school history exam, I achieved a grade I never thought I was capable of achieving thanks to Joseph’s meticulous explanations of the course content and how to improve my essay technique. If you are looking for the best history tutor in the country, look no further.
Joseph is widely read, engaging and incomparably intellectual. An unparalleled knowledge on a vast range of historical material marries perfectly with Joseph’s love of education to provide a simultaneously excellent and entertaining learning experience. Certainly one to keep your eye on in the future, and an excellent tutor in the meantime
Jospeh has really helped me grasp History (and more specifically the Crusades) in a way no teacher really has. His advice and guidance was quick and engaging, and the exercises he recommended have helped me immensely. I also have to commend his unending patience with me (I have dyslexia and so needed a little more support with the reading). I couldn't recommend anyone better!
I’ve known Joe for a long time now, so I know how seriously he takes his subjects. He loves learning new things of all kinds, and clearly wants to share that passion with others. I therefore think he would make a fantastic tutor. Give him a chance!
