I like to cover topics students find more challenging by gauging how much they already know. I usually find that students need the most help in gaining confidence in using the methods they have seen in school/college. I am happy to go through example questions but then ask that students lead me through it rather than me giving the answers for a more active learning experience.
I have recently finished my final set of exams in my mathematics degree at the University of Manchester. I am predicted a first, having achieved 85% in both of my first and second years.
Before attending university I worked as a maths teaching assistant in a secondary school, working with students between the ages of 14 and 18, and from various different sets, including GCSE resit classes in which all students improved their grade, and 90% achieved a grade C (now a 5). I found different approaches to the subjects worked better for different students, and so my tutoring style now is very flexible around the student so we can achieve success together
Perfect! It has been great. Jamie was very patient and understanding - he took me through the sections I didn't understand step by step. I would definitely recommend him to anyone else looking for a maths tutor!
