Before applying to my degree in Religion and Theology, I worked as private music tutor in West London, and taught for the Arts Academy, a music tutoring company based in Regent Street, London, for over four years. I have ample experience performing, teaching, composing and recording. Even though the lute is my main instrument, I can also play, and have taught, the piano and guitar. I ardour early music, which is why the lute is my principle fascination, and the instrument I’d like to study further. Joan Ambrosio Dalza is an early Venetian composer who has influenced me tremendously; interestingly, barely anything is known about his life and career.
Studying a degree in Religion and Theology at the University of Bristol, has given me invaluable analytical skills, with a concise understanding of ancient and modern history, language and theological concepts. I have a keen interest in languages and can read Greek at an elementary level, and Latin at an intermediate level. I was very fortunate to study at Leiden University as part of the study abroad scheme offered at Bristol’s Religion and Theology department. Living in the Netherlands was a wonderful experience, I encountered a different European culture, with a rich and vibrant history in the arts and humanities, and I improved my language skills the more by learning Dutch.
