First of all the brackets need to be expanded. We can do this by multiplying the first bracket by 4, and the second brackets by -3 like so: Simplifying each bracket becomes: Now we need to deal with the negative sign on the second braket (we could have taken care of this in the first step, but for clarity I have broken it up a bit more). So the sum could also be written like this: Remember; when a negative is multiplied with another negative it becomes positives, when a negative is multiplied with a positive it becomes negative. So we get: Now we just need to sum up the numbers and the m's to give: Now we can simplify it to give the answer: Hope that helps!

Sorry, the first part should read "We can do this by multiplying the first bracket by 4, and the second brackets by 3 like so"
