The curve with the equation y=cosx/(2x+1), x> - 1/2 intersects the line y=1/2 at the point where x=α. i) Show that α lies between 0 and pi/2 ii)Use the iteration x(subscript n+1) - cosx(subscript n)-1/2 with x1=0 to find x3, giving your answer to 3d.p.

For the first part you use the knowledge that a continuous equation has a root in an interval if the value of the function changes sign in the interval.For the second you just put in your numbers 3 times.
