If, by the first term, you mean the x^2 term then your best bet is to use the general equation for the solution of a quadratic. The two results will give you the x intercepts i.e. the x =0 points. The axis of symmetry will be midway between these points.

However in your case if the first term is a fraction then you must multiply the whole equation by the denominator and then complete the square

With the equation of the parabola you must first complete the square so that the quadratic is in the form (x+a)^2 + b....The minimum will be at the coordinates (-a,b) and the line of symmetry will be at x = -a
