I need a specialised teacher in Dyslexia. I found Rosemary through superprof. My daughter had a lesson with Rosemany about one year. My daughter is Year 7. Her last term English grade result was 8. Qualified experienced and patient tutor offers support for Students with dyslexia in Lancing/Worthing.

Methodology

I am a highly experienced and patient tutor with a proven track record of successfully helping students achieve their aims. Please contact me for a free assessment.

- Which subject(s) do you teach?

I teach English Language and Literature at Key Stage 2 and 3 and EFL.This includes reading, writing, spelling, grammar, punctuation, handwriting, literature appreciation and preparation for examinations such as SATS, GCSE and the Common Entrance Exam. I also have some experience of successfully helping dyslexic students at primary and secondary levels. In addition, I am a very experienced EFL teacher and can offer tuition in all aspects of EFL, including IELTS, FCE, CAE and CPE.

- Tell me about your qualifications.

I have a degree in English Language and Literature (University of Southampton) and a Post Graduate Certificate in Education, specialising in Upper Primary from Brighton University and have attended some courses run by the British Dyslexia Association in order to be able to help students with possible dyslexia. I also have the Diploma in TEFL. I am happy to show you my certificates when we meet.

- How much do you charge?

My initial assessment is free. I like to meet the student (and parent if appropriate) to get to know them and discuss their requirements. From there I can devise an individual learning plan. I charge £30.00 per hour for Key Stage 2 lessons and £35.00 per hour for Key Stage 3 lessons. If extra support is needed for a dyslexic student, I charge £35.00 per hour. The charges include setting and marking homework.
I charge between £30 and £35 for EFL

- Where do you teach?

I normally teach at my home on the borders of Lancing and Worthing, close to Shoreham and Sompting, West Sussex, providing a quiet environment without distractions. I have a self contained study and can teach a socially distanced lesson, complete with whiteboard, perspex screens, etc, complying with government regulations, if required. I can also tutor on Skype and have been doing so during the pandemic.

- When are you available?

I am available weekdays in the mornings and after school/evenings. I also offer booster sessions and examination preparation during school holidays.

- Which ages and levels do you teach?

I normally teach from the beginning of Key Stage 2 (usually approximately 7 years old) up to GCSE/adult learners.
I can teach EFL from Beginner up to and including Proficiency level students.

- Which qualifications do you prepare your students for?

I am happy to prepare students for SATS (end of Year 6) and GCSE (including Literature). I am also happy to offer preparation for the Common Entrance Exam.
I can prepare students for FCE, CAE, CPE and IELTS.

- Describe your arrangements for online tutoring.

I am happy to offer lessons on Skype if required.

- Do you have a personal message for students?

Just because something is difficult it doesn't mean that it is impossible! Individual students have different learning styles and one of the advantages of private tuition is that these needs can be catered for within a sympathetic and supportive learning environment. I am able to tailor my teaching to meet the unique needs of each student and together we can work towards your success. I am patient, approachable and enthusiastic and would love to be able to help you.

Experience

- What kind of experience do you have?

I have taught English within the state and private school systems for over twenty five years and I love it! I have experience of infant, primary, secondary and adult students, having taught within the UK and overseas. I have worked as a senior teacher and mentored less experienced colleagues.
I have been tutoring for the last six years and have found it very rewarding and enjoyable. I use a variety of methods and materials, from computer games to comparing different versions of texts. I love being able to see my students progress and achieve the success they are hoping for. I enjoy all aspects of tutoring, from helping less able students who are reluctant to read or write, to those who are anxious to achieve a pass or an A grade at GCSE. It's always satisfying to hear how much more they are enjoying the subject at school!
I have extensive experience of EFL and have worked as a Director of Studies and Senior Teacher. I am also a published writer.

- Do you have an up-to-date DBS (Disclosure & Barring Service, formerly CRB) Certificate?

I have an enhanced disclosure CRB certificate.

- Where and with whom did you train?

See above.

- Tell me about some of your current students.

At the moment I am tutoring some students at Key Stage 2 and some others at Key Stage 3, including a student about to take GCSE, who I have been teaching for the last six years. I have tutored quite a few year 6 students for their SATS examinations, seeing them achieve levels 4 and 5, although having previously been assessed as likely to achieve level 3. I have helped GCSE students achieve a grade A (improvement from predicted C grade) and from a fail to a C grade. I have also recently tutored a student who was struggling to gain an IELTS band 7 in her writing, which she succeeded in doing after a couple of weeks of lessons, and taught a dyslexic eight year old to read.

Rosemary has gone the extra mile to understand my daughter and to work with her in a really responsive way. Rosemary has put a lot of work in to making sure the materials and approach that she uses matches my daughter's abilities and needs, with the result that my daughter's skills are coming on really well and she's making great progress. I really can't recommend Rosemary highly enough! She is a skilled tutor and a lovely person.

Rosemary is the best English teacher I've ever had. Her lessons were very helpful, informative and interesting but at the same time she saw my weak sides and did her best to improve my English skills. I recommend her lessons to everybody who would like to get good results.

Rosemary tutored my daughter for GCSE English Language and Literature. She taught her so much in such a short time and made a tremendous difference to her confidence and exam results. We are grateful to her and would recommend without hesitation.

When I started in January I had got grade 2 in my mocks and found creative writing and understanding what was needed to answer the question really hard. I am someone who doesn't really like school or learning, but I looked forward to my lessons with Mrs Hector as she explained everything in a way that I understood. I have just taken my GCSE's and managed to pass with a grade 4. I would highly recommend Mrs Hector to everyone. She is very kind and understanding and a very good tutor.

I'm so happy that I decided to boost my son's learning and found Rosemary. With just a few extra lessons in the holidays over the last year she has boosted his confidence as well as his comprehension and I've seen a great and real impact in his school reports. He's happy too as he looks forward to his extra lessons. He says they're fun and enjoys the kind considered attention that Rosemary gives him.

Rosemary helped me to achieve a band 7 in my IELTS writing exam, which I was struggling to do. She is excellent at what she does and I have really enjoyed her lessons. Rosemary was brilliant at identifying my weaknesses and helped me to improve. She was always well prepared and provided plenty of encouragement when I was lacking in confidence. I would highly recommend her.

Rosemary has been giving my son extra literacy help for the last couple of years. She is reliable, trustworthy and friendly. She always makes the lesson fun and will focus on topics that interest my son, so the lessons are personal to him. He has gained confidence in his reading, writing and spelling. I would have no hesitation in recommending Rosemary

I am glad that Rosie prepared me for the Proficiency exam. She is very understanding and flexible and immediately picked up on what I needed most and concentrated on that. She is a really gifted teacher and can explain things really well. She always encouraged me and showed me how I could improve. She marked my work quickly and was always well prepared. I enjoyed my lessons a lot.

My son needed some help with Literacy. He was becoming demotivated and losing confidence. Rosie has been giving him lessons for the last couple of months and already we are seeing the benefits. He is achieving his spellings at school, putting himself forward for tasks and challenging himself. Rosie believes in him and he loves his lessons. I would have no hesitation in recommending Rosie. She is professional, knowlegeable and has a positive approach to things.

With Rosemary's help my son managed to achieve a 'C' grade in his recent GCSE exam, having failed first time round. My son is a reluctant learner, but was always happy to attend Rosemary's lessons and certainly benefitted from the extra tuition and confidence Rosemary gave him in his abilities. When exam time came around he was relaxed and confident in obtaining a pass mark. I would have no hesitation recommending Rosemary and it was definitely time well spent for my son.
