- Do you have a personal message for students?
Just because something is difficult it doesn't mean that it is impossible! Individual students have different learning styles and one of the advantages of private tuition is that these needs can be catered for within a sympathetic and supportive learning environment. I am able to tailor my teaching to meet the unique needs of each student and together we can work towards your success. I am patient, approachable and enthusiastic and would love to be able to help you.
- What kind of experience do you have?
I have taught English within the state and private school systems for over twenty five years and I love it! I have experience of infant, primary, secondary and adult students, having taught within the UK and overseas. I have worked as a senior teacher and mentored less experienced colleagues.
I have been tutoring for the last six years and have found it very rewarding and enjoyable. I use a variety of methods and materials, from computer games to comparing different versions of texts. I love being able to see my students progress and achieve the success they are hoping for. I enjoy all aspects of tutoring, from helping less able students who are reluctant to read or write, to those who are anxious to achieve a pass or an A grade at GCSE. It's always satisfying to hear how much more they are enjoying the subject at school!
I have extensive experience of EFL and have worked as a Director of Studies and Senior Teacher.
- Do you have an up-to-date DBS (Disclosure & Barring Service, formerly CRB) Certificate?
I have an enhanced disclosure CRB certificate.
- Where and with whom did you train?
- Tell me about some of your current students.
At the moment I am tutoring some students at Key Stage 2 and some others at Key Stage 3, including a student about to take GCSE, who I have been teaching for the last six years. I have tutored quite a few year 6 students for their SATS examinations, seeing them achieve levels 4 and 5, although having previously been assessed as likely to achieve level 3. I have helped GCSE students achieve a grade A (improvement from predicted C grade) and from a fail to a C grade. I have also recently tutored a student who was struggling to gain an IELTS band 7 in her writing, which she succeeded in doing after a couple of weeks of lessons, and taught a dyslexic eight year old to read.
• B.A. (Hons) in English from University of Southampton
• PGCE from Brighton University
• I have an enhanced disclosure CRB certificate.
Rosemary is the best English teacher I've ever had. Her lessons were very helpful, informative and interesting but at the same time she saw my weak sides and did her best to improve my English skills. I recommend her lessons to everybody who would like to get good results.
Rosemary tutored my daughter for GCSE English Language and Literature. She taught her so much in such a short time and made a tremendous difference to her confidence and exam results. We are grateful to her and would recommend without hesitation.
( Achieved an A in Language and B in Literature)
When I started in January I had got grade 2 in my mocks and found creative writing and understanding what was needed to answer the question really hard. I am someone who doesn't really like school or learning, but I looked forward to my lessons with Mrs Hector as she explained everything in a way that I understood. I have just taken my GCSE's and managed to pass with a grade 4. I would highly recommend Mrs Hector to everyone. She is very kind and understanding and a very good tutor.
I'm so happy that I decided to boost my son's learning and found Rosemary. With just a few extra lessons in the holidays over the last year she has boosted his confidence as well as his comprehension and I've seen a great and real impact in his school reports. He's happy too as he looks forward to his extra lessons. He says they're fun and enjoys the kind considered attention that Rosemary gives him.
Rosemary helped me to achieve a band 7 in my IELTS writing exam, which I was struggling to do. She is excellent at what she does and I have really enjoyed her lessons. Rosemary was brilliant at identifying my weaknesses and helped me to improve. She was always well prepared and provided plenty of encouragement when I was lacking in confidence. I would highly recommend her.
Rosemary has been giving my son extra literacy help for the last couple of years. She is reliable, trustworthy and friendly. She always makes the lesson fun and will focus on topics that interest my son, so the lessons are personal to him. He has gained confidence in his reading, writing and spelling. I would have no hesitation in recommending Rosemary
I am glad that Rosie prepared me for the Proficiency exam. She is very understanding and flexible and immediately picked up on what I needed most and concentrated on that. She is a really gifted teacher and can explain things really well. She always encouraged me and showed me how I could improve. She marked my work quickly and was always well prepared. I enjoyed my lessons a lot.
My son needed some help with Literacy. He was becoming demotivated and losing confidence. Rosie has been giving him lessons for the last couple of months and already we are seeing the benefits. He is achieving his spellings at school, putting himself forward for tasks and challenging himself. Rosie believes in him and he loves his lessons. I would have no hesitation in recommending Rosie. She is professional, knowlegeable and has a positive approach to things.
With Rosemary's help my son managed to achieve a 'C' grade in his recent GCSE exam, having failed first time round. My son is a reluctant learner, but was always happy to attend Rosemary's lessons and certainly benefitted from the extra tuition and confidence Rosemary gave him in his abilities. When exam time came around he was relaxed and confident in obtaining a pass mark. I would have no hesitation recommending Rosemary and it was definitely time well spent for my son.
Rosie tutored my son after he failed his GCSE English the first time round. She did a great job helping him pass his retake. My younger son was also struggling with English. This time I brought in Rosie before the GCSE. He tells me the tuition is helping him and he feels more confident about his exams because of it. Rosie's help has certainly improved his confidence and we are hopeful of a good outcome when the results are in.
