My teaching focuses on the technical aspects of clarinet playing with an emphasis on performance and ensemble playing.
Lessons are taught from my home in Colchester on my Uebel Preference Professional model.
Qualifications and examinations are not the main focus of my teaching, instead favouring the application of good musicianship and practical method including performance preparation and exploration of core repertoire.
Should students want to further there study via use of graded music, I use the Associated Board of the Royal Schools of Music (ABRSM) as a template curriculum.
I teach students of all ages and abilities, from my home in Colchester and teach clarinet on an Uebel Preference Professional model; students who are too small to play the clarinet, are offered lessons on the Clarineo, which is a smaller and lighter instrument to play.
Clarinet students of all abilities are given the option to be part of a clarinet ensemble. The ensemble performs regularly in our bi-annual concerts.
Learning a musical instrument is a fun experience, nurturing discipline, concentration, and social skills through sharing the experience with others.

It has been six years since I started having lessons from Samantha at Da Capo Academy. At the start I was 10 years old and extremely nervous about playing the clarinet and performing in front of a group, worried about not being able to play to my expectations or messing up a piece of music. However over the years I've seen my confidence grow overwhelmingly. Although I'll always be anxious when performing; I've learnt to expect it and deal with it when I perform.
What a relief to find Sammy! She has been teaching my 11 year old for over a year, taking her through two grade exams in the clarinet. She is very approachable, friendly, reliable and professional. The music lessons balance a range of competencies, from music theory; to more light-hearted playing for fun. My daughter says, "A music lesson with Sammy is something to look forward to and something to enjoy".
You are a lucky person if she can fit you in!
Samantha needed to have exceptional patience and a great sense of humour to take me on and she rose to the challenge admirably. Her passion for music is infectious and she has given me the confidence to believe it's never too late to take up an instrument. She has remained consistent and supportive through the ups and downs of learning the clarinet, guiding me through my learning and dealing with pre exam nerves. I look forward to my lessons every week
