Samuel - South Wimbledon - Drum

Methodology

Members of the group will take part in a unique learning experience with three musicians who are some of the best of their generation in the UK.

- Which subject(s) do you teach?

Each term the group will learn tunes with contrasting musical styles including: Groove, Swing, Latin, Bossa, Contemporary Jazz, Bebop, Hard Bop, Funk etc.
During the sessions the group will cover harmonic and rhythmic knowledge which is essential for effective improvisation.
Another main focus of the sessions will be to establish a repertoire of tunes which will enable students to form and even lead their own bands.
Specific areas of Jazz history will also be covered such as how jazz evolved, iconic jazz musicians and present day jazz/music.

Another main focus of the sessions will be to establish a repertoire of tunes which will enable students to form and even lead their own bands.
Also should students choose to attend ' jam' sessions they will have a library of tunes at their fingertips.
This will prepare students for Jazz gradings

The workshop is a fun, friendly and interactive place to meet friends, play tunes and learn. So bring your instruments, be happy, smile and don't hold back!

- Tell me about some of your current students.

Currently teaching the following:
8 year old saxophone - With 3 months tuition he has memorised 4 songs with chord tones, all major scales, all melodic and harmonic minor scales 2 octaves, we have started a Charlie Parker transcription and has performed at his first gig. Sound is developing very well.
All other students involved in the workshop are at a similar level.
