About the lesson
Master of Music, Trinity Laban Conservatoire of Music and Dance (currently studying)
Bmus (Hons), Guildhall School of Music and Drama
- Which subject(s) do you teach?
I am able to teach the cello to all levels and the piano to beginners up to grade 5. I can also give coaching to chamber groups.
- Tell me about your qualifications.
I am currently studying Masters of Music at Trinity Laban Conservatoire of Music and Dance with the cellist Natalie Clein. Pervious to that, I studied at Guildhall School of Music and Drama with Richard Lester. From 1998-2006 I studied at The Purcell School of Music with Alison Wells and Michal Kaznowski.
- How much do you charge?
Cello- £30 per hour
£15 per half hour
Piano- £30 per hour
£15 per half hour
I would advise young children and beginners to have 30 minute lessons to start.
It is extremely important to have a consultation lesson, as having the right working relationship is vital. These are a flat-rate of £10
- Where do you teach?
I normally teach in my music room from my home in Broxbourne, Herts. I have found this works best for both me and the student. I am also able to travel to nearby areas, but charge an extra £5 for traveling expenses.
- When are you available?
I am generally quite flexible, and can teach both during the week and at weekends. I am also able to teach during school holidays.
- Which ages and levels do you teach?
Cello - All ages and all levels
Piano- All ages but I prefer to teach beginners to grade 5
- Which qualifications do you prepare your students for?
I am able to prepare students for grade examinations with ABRSM and Trinity-Guildhall . I have taught students successfully through exams, but I feel it is important to discuss how best the student works. Some people like to have an exam to work towards, while others can hate it!
- Describe your arrangements for online tutoring.
If you decide to learn with me and would like some extra tutoring or some school holiday lessons, I am able to give lessons over Skype ( or other video communication) and, advise over email. Obviously this isn't the best method of teaching, but it can be a good way to seek advise if a bit lost between lessons (especially during school holidays)!
- Do you have a personal message for students?
Learning an instrument is incredibly rewarding, and something I feel everyone should do at some point in their life! While playing an instrument is hard work, the enjoyment makes up for it! You will never regret learning an instrument, especially an instrument as beautiful as the cello!
