About the lesson

Both adults and children will find me very approachable (I have four children myself!) I have been teaching for over 20 years.

- Which subject(s) do you teach?

Cello, piano, early years music.

- Tell me about your qualifications.

LTCL (Cello), DipLCM (piano), BSc

- How much do you charge?

Cello lessons are £15 per half-hour, piano lessons are £14 per half-hour or £10 for 20 minutes (latter recommended for young beginners). These are usually payable on a termly invoice (six terms per year). Pre-instrumental groups for 4-7 year olds are £5 per session (with 3 or 4 children in the group). These classes last half an hour. If numbers drop to 2 children the cost rises to £7. I occasionally have space for 20 minute individual pre-instrumental lessons. The cost for these is £9.

- Where do you teach?

I teach at home - Long Ashton, Bristol, North Somerset.

- When are you available?

Wednesdays and Thursdays from 3.45pm. Generally just during term time but there is some availability during school holiday periods.

- Which ages and levels do you teach?

Cello - beginner to Grade 8 (children and adults), Piano - beginner to Grade 5 (children and adults), Pre-instrumental for ages 4-7 and Pre-school for ages 18 months to 4 years inclusive.

- Which qualifications do you prepare your students for?

At the moment I am entering students for Trinity Guildhall exams, although if a student had a strong preference for ABRSM exams I would be happy to follow this route.

About Sarah

- What kind of experience do you have?

I have been teaching the cello for over 20 years, piano for slightly less. I currently only teach privately but have taught in various schools in the past. I have specialised in teaching young children in groups for the last 10 years.

- Do you have an up-to-date DBS (Disclosure & Barring Service, formerly CRB) Certificate?

- Where and with whom did you train?

My last teacher was Alfia Bekova who studied with Rostropovitch. I have just started having lessons again with Bruno Schrecker who studied with Casals - it is always good to keep learning yourself!

- Tell me about some of your current students.

I am currently teaching both adults and young children. I love both! Getting a child as young as 6 started on the cello is great fun and really rewarding. I am currently teaching a 7 year old and with good parental support she has just passed her Initial Grade exam with a merit. It is great to engage with adults too and be able to discuss technique and musicianship on a different level.
