I am a professional saxophone and woodwind player gigging regularly around Surrey and London. Some of my career highlights include playing on cruise ships, recording a jazz album and playing on a festival stage.
- Which subject(s) do you teach?
I teach saxophone to all ages and abilities. I also offer ensemble experience for my students, e.g. quartet or trio playing, and student concerts at least twice a year.
- Tell me about your qualifications.
My qualifications include a diploma in saxophone performance, a diploma in instrumental teaching and a degree in music from the University of Durham.
- How much do you charge?
I charge £34.50 per hour, or £17.25 for half an hour.
- Where do you teach?
I teach at my home in Woking, Surrey.
- When are you available?
I'm available on Thursdays and Fridays at the moment, and all days of the week from Spring 2018. I DON'T teach over Christmas and Easter, and I can teach over half term if you'd like.
- Which ages and levels do you teach?
I teach all ages, levels and musical genres!
- Which qualifications do you prepare your students for?
We can prepare for exams or keep it relaxed.
- Do you have a personal message for students?
I have two aims in my lessons: progress and fun. I believe that everyone can learn to play music, whether or not they think they are "musical"! Each session will be challenging but hugely rewarding. I do a bit of everything: technical work, reading music, improvising, playing by ear and theory. In my experience this creates a well-rounded musician who knows what they're doing and why. It also makes for independent learners who can eventually do what they want with music without a teacher's help.
- What kind of experience do you have?
I have been a professional musician since I graduated five years ago and have taught the whole time, both in schools and privately.
- Do you have an up-to-date DBS (Disclosure & Barring Service, formerly CRB) Certificate?
I am DBS checked.
