I teach 1-1 or small groups, and concentrate on understanding rather than rote learning. I have research and university lecturing experience, as well as school teaching and 1-1 coaching. I enjoy working with people and for me the best bit is when you understand something. Methods vary - it depends what suits you.
Academically; Medical Research, Physics, Molecular Biology, Systems Engineering. I lectured in Software Engineering too.
Outside of that, I also did counselling, much writing and I was an editor too. I have trained in various things and usually the teaching was poor, which is one reason I like to teach. I have lectured to large classes, taught groups of 12, taught twos and threes, and taught 1-1. Grades depend on you, but my students improve and some excel.
I charge the travel costs+standard hourly rate, so it varies depending on where you are. I also vary the hourly rate depending on how much preparation is not involved - it can take 3 hours to prepare a 1-hour lesson (you pay for the lesson, not the prep, which is why so many tutors do not prepare properly), so if it takes very little prep. I reduce the hourly rate.
