In my teaching, I hope to create a relaxed and enjoyable learning environment. I'm very passionate about English Literature and storytelling in general, therefore I'm keen to engage with students who are enthusiastic about the subject, but also hope to inspire those who might need more guidance and encouragement along the way. I'm looking forward to delving into assigned literature / plays / poetry / films with students, discussing them in depth in order to ensure a greater analytical understanding of each piece of work. I'm open to teaching those at degree level, A Level and GCSE level.
Alongside discussions of the work, in my lessons, I would organise informal tests to assess knowledge of things such as plot, social / historical context, memorisation of quotes etc. I would also set short essays that would encourage students to explore the ideas and themes present in each piece of work - in this exercise, I would also help students with essay writing, giving tips on structure, evaluating the question, drawing on examples from the text to support an argument, etc. I will also apply this to my methods when helping students to write personal statements and cover letters. However, I'm very flexible and am more than happy to adapt my teaching in order to be sensitive to an individual student's needs.
I believe I'm a very affable, friendly and warm person, as well as being very empathetic, therefore, I truly feel I will help to inspire a positive and supportive learning experience!
I'm currently an MA Scriptwriting student at Goldsmiths, University of London. I graduated from University of York in 2018 with a BA Honours degree in Theatre: Writing, Directing and Performance.
