About Lumin
I have tutored professionally for over a year in the LA area and have successfully taught my students skills in standardized test-taking (SAT and other admissions tests,) math between pre-algebra and multivariable calculus, statistics, sciences, and how to become a spreadsheet whiz at work. As far as my testing experience goes, I earned perfect scores across all College Board math tests: As a high school sophomore, I received a 5 on the Calculus BC exam. My scores on the SAT I math section and the Math II subject test were both 800 as well.

Throughout my teaching experience, I have greatly enjoyed bringing tough concepts to light, with a preference for visual examples and explanations. While in college, one professor made me see teaching through a new lens. Every time a student gave a wrong answer, she would immediately figure out their thought process and tell them which parts they got right! After that, she would explain what derailed the student's thought process and show the correct steps to the right answer. I have since adopted this style, as the friendly explanations and corrections show that the student is usually not far from the right answer, and is therefore less intimidating to students than saying that an answer is wrong.
As a tutor, I have helped students realize a wide variety of goals. This goes back to my high school years, when I taught four classmates Algebra, Geometry, and Calculus. As a junior, I was a TA for four AP Calculus BC students taking the exam while my school was unable to offer that specific course. Three of them received 4's and 5's on their AP Exam, after I suggested a yearlong curriculum, helped with after-school discussions, and created and graded unit exams and practice AP questions to assess progress. Following my college studies, I was invited multiple times to guest lecture at UC Berkeley on two different topics in applied statistics, and have taught mathematical software to work colleagues.
