I am a highly experienced mature Politics tutor. My primary occupation is as a senior manager working within the public sector. I have all the right qualifications - academic and professional and my results speak for themselves.
- Which subject(s) do you teach?
My core subject is Government and Politics up to and including A level. I have successfully tutored across all this subject for many years and can provide numerous references. I have a deep and well established knowledge of both Edexcel and AQA exam boards. I possess significant expertise in UK and US politics and can support students through the myriad of policy areas in this subject !
- Tell me about your qualifications.
I have a BSc (Hons) in Social Science and Politics (Open University) and a Master of Arts in Religion, Politics and Conflict, (St Mary's University College, Twickenham). The ability to communicate, impart knowledge and promote understanding is just as, if not more important. You'll find that I am very experienced in this area.
You will find my MA certificate in the media section of this site.
I am also a senior manager in the public sector and am literally immersed in UK politics every day as its my job !!
- How much do you charge?
I charge a very competitive £35 per hour for all courses. With regard travel costs, this can be negotiated with individual tutees and their parents on the first consultation visit. If you live near Bexley/Dartford, there is no charge. However further afield may incur a minimal charge if applied (max £5) and is dependant on how easy it is to get to the address!! I prefer not to undertake group lessons and like to focus on proving a bespoke and focussed 121 session.
NB - The first consultation and 'meet the tutor' before a session is always free and included within the tutoring fee will be full email and telephone support. You only pay for 121 contact time. I do think it is vital that any family is able to assess the person coming into their house before they employ! I have tutored many students for the full two years of an A level and believe me have become part of the family !
- Where do you teach?
I provide tutoring at the tutees home address and online on occasion. I live in South East London but I am very willing to travel to all locations within a 25 mile radius from Bexley (as long as I have time to get home in the evenings)! I have travelled to sessions as far apart as Central London (Chelsea, Hammersmith), and Kent/Surrey (Ewell,Tunbridge Wells, and Gravesend) and I am always punctual - in fact I am very OCD about not being late!
- When are you available?
I am available from 4pm most weekday evenings and all day at the weekend including throughout school holidays. With sufficient notice I can tutor during the day and school holidays.
- Which ages and levels do you teach?
I tutor from 16 to 18 for A Level subjects.
I also tutor and support all essay and dissertation writing to postgraduate level and have several graduate and postgrad clients.
- Which qualifications do you prepare your students for?
I prepare students for A Level. However I also provide tuition in essay writing for all ages across a whole range of subjects.
- Describe your arrangements for online tutoring.
I do tutor online via Skype or another suitable app. Whilst I prefer face to face as I can assess the student more effectively, online tuition can work as long as the student and tutor understand the potential challenges and work around these,e.g. keeping a focus . With any session I encourage and push for a high degree of interaction from the student and online will be just as important if not more so. Any tuition material/work set can be emailed and as with 121 tuition there is phone support provided.
- Do you have a personal message for students?
Look if your worried about another hour in lessons don't be. The sessions are fun and easy going but you WILL learn. By the way an hour flies past !!
Simon is one of our best tutors. They have a high-quality profile, verified qualifications, a quick response time, and great reviews from students!
- What kind of experience do you have?
I have 6 years of successful tutoring. You don't have to have Qualified Teacher Status to be able to effectively teach, impart information, support or know a subject in depth. My results speak for themselves and my many clients will support this. Just bear in mind most G&P teachers are not qualified in politics which sometimes is the reason I am asked to support the school teaching.
I am currently tutoring A level students in Government and Politics/Sociology. I teach to the syllabus and not just to pass exams albeit I do provide in depth support for exam technique. It is essential a student understands the subject and can analyse to achieve high levels of success. My previous students will testify that I am particularly passionate about politics!!
Recent results (August 2016) - 1 A Grade, 4 B Grades and all were significant increases on previous results. All students got their required places at Uni. All these results and my standards can be verified with personal references on request. I only take about 6-8 students per term so space is limited
I provide that unique combination of academic knowledge with real life experience of working within government and a mature outlook. What you get with me is an in depth knowledge of the current political/social developments as they happen and believe me this will add to your marks considerably. I am not fresh from college and have credibility! I am highly reliable, punctual but also very flexible and easy going.
- Do you have an up-to-date DBS (Disclosure & Barring Service, formerly CRB) Certificate?
I have a current Enhanced DBS check which expires in April 2019. This will be available to view at the first visit.
- Tell me about some of your current students.
I have just tutored 6 A level students who have been with me for the academic year 2015/16. All of these clients are willing to provide references for potential new clients and have seen significant improvements in grades in August 2016 results following tuition (up to four grade boundaries). This can be verified. Many of my old clients are still in contact with me through university and I still help with their essays (free of charge I hasten to add!!)
• BSc. Hons. Sociology and Politics
• MA. Religion and Politics
• Enhanced DBS. Expires April 2016
Thank you so much for all your help Simon, I couldn't have done it without you! If you need me to do any recommendations or anything for your (lucky) future students I would be more than happy to help
I'm literally in shock! Couldn't have done it without your help!!!!!! Thank you !!!!!
Alex has reminded me that I need to write to thank you for the work that you did with her on the Education and Research Methods paper. She felt much more confident going into the exam, and definitely thought that she did much better this time.Â
She particularly wanted me to thank you, and I do appreciate the time that you took particularly given the distances.
I guess all of the above amounts to an 'A' for your performance – well done!
Simon, I got a B, thank you so much for all your help, wouldn't have been able to do it without it. Kate
I would like to thank you for your commitment and dedication in helping me through my Government and Politics A-Levels in such a short amount of time, sorry it has been this late for me to thank you because I have been away. I got into De Montfort University which is in Leicester to study Business Management and Human Resource Management. Again I would like to thank you very much and I am most grateful for the time and effort you put in.
