I base my classes on what I have learned from five years of studying the Alexander technique, and from other voice-body awareness techniques like those of Linklater, Feldenkrais, and Roy Hart. I focus on developing an awareness on how to breathe without effort or strain, and how to produce sound naturally, as a foundation for singing and music making. I offer warm-up exercises that hone in on specific problems like neck tension, lack of breath, hoarseness, and short voice projection. Through different exercises that I look to expand the vocal register, develop voice agility and learn to sing in an expressive manner but without strain or tension.
I am a singer currently working on my PhD in Musicology which focuses on voice technique in early recordings, and I have been teaching singing for more than five years. I sing classical repertoire, mainly art song and chamber music, though I have also sung popular music -- Spanish & Latin American folksongs. Through personal experience and as a teacher I have found that the key factor in singing freely and without tension is to learn to focus on our body, what goes on inside and to learn to allow sound to be produced. My students find a new way to approach their music and their voices, letting go of previously acquired constraints, all through a new awareness of their instrument and what goes on when sound is produced. Freedom is acquired once you get to know your own instrument, your voice, and focus on the quality how you produce sound. This way you truly enjoy singing as an expression of your own creative self.
Perfect! Very helpful physical and vocal exercises o warm up, plus advice on the singing part. Wonderful!
Lauren is a musician with a lot of experience in the field and she is open to the input and coaching that I can offer her with her voice development
Perfect! Lola is really interested in the holistic aspect of singing and helps you get into your body and out of your head. She is patient and detailed and helps you express your authentic feelings through the music.
Victoria is very open to learning and is a pleasure to teach
She was my first singing teacher. I love to sing and sing at karaoke too and Lola has helped me gain confidence with my voice. She’s very detail oriented, she makes you feel safe in her class, and I’ve gained a lot of insight about how to sing and how to use my physical body and movements to enhance my voice. I am sure that anyone who takes lessons with Lola will be very pleased. Lola is not only a great coach, she is a wonderful person, as well! Thank you!
Lola P. Has been an excellent tutor. I start my learning six months ago. Her sessions are dynamics I feel very comfortable with her guide, learned a lot about my voice. I have felt great progress and I really like her technique..
She's really patient. During two years, she was my singing teacher and helped me to become more self-confident and overcome my shyness.
At the same time, she taught me to improve my singing technique.
Lola is a great teacher! She has many tools and techniques to offer, and explains everything in great detail. She is very passionate about singing and teaching which reflects to her classes. Strongly recommend working with her if you want someone who cares about the emotional connection of the art of singing as well as the technique.
Lola has been my voice teacher for over a year now and I feel I have developed my singing skills significantly. I have learned to be more in tune with how I sing, and what goes on when I sing. I can also notice when I create unnecessary tension or breathe shallow. I've felt much freer while singing and enjoy it much much more! Lola is very down to earth and relaxed and has helped me enjoy singing my own songs. She's great!
