If you wish to work towards examinations, then I will teach up to grade 4 using Trinity College London's syllabus. However, my predominant aim in tutoring is to really focus on the student's own musical needs, goals, and development, without the pressure of exams. I will always take into account a student's desire to learn a specific piece, style, or technique. At the moment, I am tutoring an adult from my own home in Clifton & have taught children in the past, but I would love to expand to all ages in Bristol; either at my home or yours! My lessons will tend to last for 1 hour, but of course, this is negotiable. Once the initial basics are learnt over the first few lessons, the structure of the lesson should expect to look something like this:
- Warm-up (loosening up the fingers to prepare for chords, complicated patters)
- A break down of the melody and supporting chords/progressions (usually practice with right/left hand separately & then together)
-Musical theory incorporated throughout - learning keys, time signatures & general musical symbols & terms are a great way to understanding the basics of piano
-A thorough understanding of what is expected of the student for the following lessons e.g, the ways in which piano should be practiced, offering different techniques to do so
Overall, I want to offer my musical knowledge to aspiring musicians, & really allow students to express themselves, in any way which suits them best; whether that be through examinations or personal & independent goals!
I am a 23-year-old grade 8 pianist. I started learning piano at 5 years old and by the time I was 17, had two lovely students, one of which (with my tentative tutoring and her dedication to practice) was able to play grade 2 level pieces within a year. I briefly stopped teaching whilst I studied English Literature at university, and have had a variety of jobs since. I currently work in the marketing department at Clifton Photographic Company, (for 1.5yrs) but I have decided teaching and helping people to reveal their musical talent is my real passion and I can't wait to meet those that are excited to learn the piano!
£25/hour. If you wish to have half-hour sessions, this will be £15. Let me know which would be preferable!
