- What kind of experience do you have?
My experience is extensive. I have taught English and 'cello to private students of all ages, as well as teaching in a number of language schools in my early years. For ten years I was a teacher and co-ordinator of Music and English as a Second language in primary schools in London. When I became self-employed,in 2012, I prepared 11+ /entrance exam candidates for their exams, as well as GCSE 'O' and AS level students and people preparing for IELTS. I spent a very successful academic year (July 2013-July 2014) working with the British Council in France (marked by having the highest return rate of my students in the centre!) My teaching included intensive Easter and Summer courses to Young Learners, all levels of General English, TOEFL English at the Ecole Centrale (a technical University) and English to medical professionals at the Roman Ferrari Burns' Centre. The year provided me valuable insight into how English is taught in Europe and has influenced my approach to teaching ESOL learners coming to Britain. I continue to teach Summer schools in France.
Since my return, I have worked with a diverse range of English learners. This has included teaching a young illiterate adult learner how to read and write and preparing her for her Citizenship exam, which she successfully passed; helping an MA student prepare essays; successfully tutoring a number of 11+ , 13+ candidates, all of whom were accepted at the schools of their choice; supporting an EFL group of 13 year old boys in their school setting and preparing several individual GCSE students from a number of different exam boards.

I would like again to congratulate the British Council and Sonia for the quality of courses..Sonia is a really super teacher. I appreciated her humour and professionalism.
Je tiens à nouveau, à féliciter le British Council et Sonia pour la qualité des cours. Sonia est vraiment une prof. super. J'ai apprécié sa bonne humeur et son professionalisme.
Sonia helped my son develop his comprehension, Creative Writing and interview skills for 11+. He was offered places at St. Paul's, Eton, Westminster and City. An excellent tutor, she inspired him to achieve his true potential, creating lessons that were fun and varied. She boosted his confidence, making the whole experience stress-free and enjoyable. She is extremely thorough and genuinely passionate about her subject. I would highly recommend her to any parent.
I have just passed my 11+ exam and will start my dream school,Wycombe Abbey, in September. With barely any hope of getting into the school of my choice. I was lucky to have Sonia as my tutor and mentor. She excelled my English to a totally different level, transforming my English and giving me confidence in writing. She is an excellent teacher with an exceptional knowledge of English. The solid grounding she gave me will benefit me in my future studies in my new secondary school.
