- Do you have a personal message for students?
Playing an instrument is fun and rewarding, and can really boost your mood and confidence. It is a great way to meet people; I've made some of my closest lifelong friends through playing in ensembles and orchestras. Regular practice is important to progress, and I work with my students to develop a realistic and manageable practice schedule, making sure it is enjoyable too and never a chore. Playing music supports your learning in other areas and develops concentration skills too.

Sophie taught my daughter clarinet from age 8 to 11 from an absolute beginner up to grade 4 standard. Georgia loved her weekly lesson because she had fun whilst learning. Sophie would play alongside Georgia, both to demonstrate a new piece and to play duets with her, which was great for confidence building. Her ability to teach and improve Georgia's technical ability was impressive and key to her progression. We were very sad to say goodbye to Sophie when she moved away.
I have experienced first hand Sophie's excellent teaching of the bassoon both with children and adults; she has a very gentle and calm manner with younger children and teenagers, enabling students of differing levels of musical attainment to derive great pleasure from playing the instrument. She has taught me, a very 'mature' student as beginner on the bassoon, and has endless patience and encouragement when I find things a bit tricky!
