When teaching, I firmly believe in the saying ‘be strict but kind’.
Every student is unique and will need a personalised approach when teaching. I grew up on graded exam systems such as offered by ABRSM and Trinity. I also incorporate Suzuki teaching, Dalcroze and Colour Strings methods into my teaching.
I am able to teach music theory up to Grade 5 level and Violin up to university level.
I am a violinist from South Africa and I have been in Birmingham for five years. I obtained a BMus(Honours) (first class) degree from the Royal Birmingham Conservatoire in 2017 and am currently in my final year of a Masters in violin performance degree at the same institution. At the start of this academic year I spent a semester on exchange at the Hochschule für Music und Theater ‘Felix Mendelssohn-Bartholdy’ in Leipzig, Germany.
I have completed many pedagogy modules during my time at the Conservatoire and have observed and taught in Birmingham Music Service. I have been a tutor at Melody Music Birmingham for three years and I am very interested in music therapy. I am also a teacher on the Arco Project, a distance learning program where we teach over Skype with a music centre in Soweto, South Africa. For this program I have undergone training with pedagogues such as Jan Repko and Wiesje Miedema.

I have studied alongside Lieva for the past five years at the Royal Birmingham Conservatoire. We have taught violin at the same music centre for three years.
Lieva is an incredibly talented, diligent and focused student, and has always excelled in all her subjects. She approaches her teaching with the same commitment and enthusiasm. Every lesson is always well prepared and planned with long term goals in mind. Lieva's relationship with her students has always been positive and supportive. I have seen how her teenage students have improved dramatically and gained confidence in themselves in a few months.
I have seen firsthand what a conscientious, patient and kind teacher Lieva is. I would recommend her to anyone looking to improve their music skills.
I have known Lieva since she started her undergraduate studies in violin performance in 2013 when we attended Stellenbosch University together. She is incredibly talented, dedicated, and has a very keen ear for detail. I have seen her at work in many different teaching contexts, and she is always inspiring. Lieva doesn't believe in teaching at anything less than 100%. Not only is she incredibly passionate, but she gets the results. Besides for the fact that she is an extremely effective teacher, I would recommend her for her kind and generous personality.
