My teaching method for English Literature would be first establishing the basics like, essay structure, grammar, and analytical skills. Followed by delving into the novels, plays and poets that the student would be examined on. Ensuring the student could embed and address the different Ao's (Ao1, Ao2, Ao3, Ao4 and Ao5) into their essay answers. Finally, working on essay technique.
In regards to English Language, I'd focus on: essay structure, planning, and time management - the key exams skills needed when undertaking the GCSE English Language. Then, I'd focus on analytical skills, again focusing on the criteria of embedding the different Ao's. Finally, working on exam preperation.
I have completed my English Literature A level, and in the new GCSEs, 9-1 qualification I achieved a 9 (A**) in English Literature and an 8 (A*) in English Language.
I have tutored students in Politics and History A levels and led my colleges Politics, Philosophy, and Economics (PPE) society both of which required planning lessons, lectures, and debates. Which is a skill I would use to form a plan to tackle the student's curriculum.
Finally, having just finished my A level studies, and being part of the first cohort to study the 9-1 GCSE syllabus and Linear A levels I understand how to approach the exam pressures, anxieties, and academic challenges that a student will face. Therefore, I will use my personal experience to help aid my student to achieve the best grades possible!
