Southampton University engineering student teaching Maths and Physics to Secondary, GCSE and A Level Students

Methodology

My name is Toby Murley and I am an Electromechanical Engineering student at the University of Southampton. I am available to give lessons to GCSE and A level students in Maths and Physics. In conjunction with the student, I will work out the particular areas they need help with and plan a programme accordingly.

Experience

My main teaching experience was as an instructor in Sea Cadets teaching students Marine Engineering and Navigation. These courses helped them achieve Sea Cadet National Qualifications. Over the past few years I have helped friends and my younger siblings with areas they found difficult in their GCSE and A level syllabuses.

EDUCATION AND QUALIFICATIONS

2006-2011 More House School, Frensham, Farnham, Surrey

I have 9 GCSEs in Maths, English Language, English Literature, Biology, Chemistry, Physics, History, Business Studies and Product Design. I obtained an A in all of these subjects with the exception of Maths, in which I obtained an A*.

2011-2014 Albemarle College, London

3 A Levels in Maths, Physics, Economics and an AS Level in History (A,A,B,B Respectively).

2014-Present University of Southampton

I have just completed my Third Year at University studying Electromechanical Engineering.

WORK EXPERIENCE

2010 to 2014 Oxfam Books, Chiswick

I was a shop assistant in a charity shop where my responsibilities include operating the till, paying money in at the bank, taking deliveries to the Post Office and sorting out stock. This included pricing donated items, gift-aiding and displaying them.

My work involved communication with customers to help them find books, CDs and DVDs, stock control, handling large amounts of cash and taking it responsibly to the bank to pay it in.

2011-2014 Duchess of Cambridge Pub, Stamford Brook

I was a kitchen porter where my responsibilities included washing up, keeping the kitchen clean, taking the rubbish out and sometimes assisting the chefs with the preparation of food.

INTERESTS AND ACTIVITIES

I also have a match day job at Twickenham selling ‘Ref! Link’ radios. This has given me a further opportunity to develop my inter-personal and marketing skills.

At University I am a member of the American Football team, the Southampton Stags, as an ‘Offensive Lineman’. I’m also involved with the University’s Formula Student Team which is an Inter-University competition similar to Formula 1 racing. I am on the electronics team and was involved in the electrical circuit design of our car.

SKILLS AND ACHIEVEMENTS

I am a holder of the Bronze and Silver Duke of Edinburgh awards and am working towards my Gold.

I also hold a Level 2 BTEC in Marine Engineering through the Sea Cadet Corps having attended a number of courses in Mechanical and Electrical Engineering.
