My teaching will always be based on the final exams of the tutee where appropriate. I will concentrate on improving the four key skills - reading, listening, writing and speaking - with a specific focus on the latter. I believe that the ability to speak Spanish confidently is the key to mastering the other three skills. It is also the single most important aspect of the new GCSE and A Level specifications, accounting for 30% of the overall qualification on most exam boards.
To facilitate oral improvement, I will begin and end each lesson with speaking activities and regularly coordinate mock speaking tests tailored to the tutee's exam board and qualification - whether that be discussing stimulus cards or practising the new role-play scenarios introduced by some GCSE exam boards. Alongside this, I will design listening and reading comprehension activities akin to those encountered in the exam which will test the student and encourage, through reflection on mistakes, repetition and memory of the fundamental material that must be understood to achieve the top grades.
I have spent 7 years learning Spanish both in English schools and in Spain through several exchange opportunities. I have decided to continue studying the language as part of a joint-honours course with Law at the University of Bristol.
Having achieved A*s at GCSE and A Level and having led extra-curricular Spanish classes to students of these qualifications, I will be able to make an especially significant impact on those trying to bump up their GCSE and A Level grades and increase confidence in spoken Spanish generally.
