My teaching style focuses on understanding new subject matter then application of that knowledge to problems or contexts to encourage retention of the information. My approach to tutoring is based on attaining a good, mutual relationship at the outset, inspiring the student with the confidence to say when they do not understand a subject area so that we can address any deficiencies in knowledge. I encourage them to use examples of their own and to make any new subject matter relative to their own life, for example, by incorporating popular culture references and topical subjects in the news.
My tutoring experience ranges widely. I have taught English lessons to children aged 8-14 and have had great success in giving support to Oxbridge candidates in mock interviews as well as providing support with verbal and non-verbal tests for common entrance exams, local grammar school entrance and private schools such as Sevenoaks.
I have spent the past year providing one-to-one tutoring support for a candidate applying to Cambridge for Law. This support has comprised of Skype sessions, mock interviews and assessment centres to equip the candidate with the skills and knowledge required for the application and interview process. So far, I have had 100% of my students review me as "outstanding" with considerable success rates in getting candidates into private schools in London and Oxbridge.
I was most concerned to teach in developing areas of the world and have taught English in Argentina and India. I contacted an organisation who put me in touch with a school in Cordoba, Argentina, where I taught English for a month. I created my own lesson plans and was able to engage the children by making cultural references and employing visual learning methods.
