My sessions are built on positive reinforcement, with a specific focus on making the subject enjoyable for every student. This, I believe, helps give the student the motivation to do their very best in any subject, which ultimately will bring the best results possible.
I usually teach primary school aged children, however I am very comfortable with secondary age.
I am a Speech and Language therapy student. I am currently employed by my university as a Literacy tutor working with 10 children aged 8-9. I have been in this role since January this year. I have seen great improvements in my pupils in terms of accuracy, pace and comprehension when reading. I have had specific teaching on literacy development through my degree.
Please give up to 2 hours notice before cancellation due to travel time.
I am currently a student at Birmingham City University studying Speech and Language therapy.
I have recently completed my first placement within this course at a community clinic in Shropshire, with experience in the CDC (child development centre) in the county. This placement gave me the opportunity to work with children and families with a range of SEN (special educational needs), while helping to assess children's language and speech needs, and offering suitable advice. This placement has provided me with vital knowledge on the behavioural strategies that need to be put in place for children with poor attention and listening, and poor understanding of language. I worked with children with a range of needs; including attachment disorders, language delay and disorder, speech delay and disorder, ASD, cerebral palsy, Prader-Willi syndrome, stuttering and dyslexia (and possibly more). This has given me confidence in knowing how to implement strategies to allow all children to be able to access language, and reach their full potential.

I am currently a part time literacy tutor. One day a week my role is to go into a school and aid children who are below where expected for their reading age. I currently work with children in Year 3. This role involves me;
-Planning individual sessions for 10 different children
- Being attentive to each child’s needs and concerns
- Highlighting children’s strengths and building their confidence
- Preparing appropriate comprehension questions for each child to aid their reading development
- Developing good relationships with the children’s teachers and giving them feedback on the children’s progress.
2015 - Coventry Elim Pentecostal church
I was a voluntary intern within the church for a year. This experience tested my ability to work with a great variety of people, which caused my confidence to grow. My main duties were:
Working with the children's worker; preparing and planning activities for Sunday school each week, helping to run a breakfast club on a weekly basis, helping to run a youth club every Friday.
Handling databases of personal details for the children - keeping them up to date and moving them from paper to a computer programme
Working with an elderly group once a week; leading meetings, collecting personal details to create a new database, creating a good relationship with the people in the group.
Basic admin jobs; writing letters for pastors, answering phone calls, sending and replying to emails from the congregation with queries about the church, designing and preparing leaflets for the public, handling data from people within the church and keeping records up to date.
Planning and preparing the weekend away for over 50 children from the church's; handling large amounts of money, paying for travel and accommodation, balancing the account, going on the trip and caring for the children with help from a team of volunteers, being able to organise the trip efficiently so there were no problems on arrival.
I still volunteer at my church as a children’s worker, where I lead around 30-40 3-5 year olds, within a team. I do this every other Sunday and prepare for it through the week with the team.
-I continue to volunteer with my church, where I work with children from ages 3-11. Within this role I often work with children that have SEN (special educational needs), in providing a comfortable and calm place for them to learn from the Sunday school teachers. I also lead the Sunday school sessions for the 3-5 year old age group. This role involves being able to enforce and maintain crowd control rules, while attending to each individual child's needs. This has taught me how to multitask and how to prioritise. I now am confident in being able to set rules with children of all ages, and ensure that the strategies I have put forward are suitable to that specific child's needs and abilities.
-I have planned, prepared and lead a holiday club within my church, which occurred May 2018. This gave me the knowledge that I am able to think up out of the box ideas that are new and creative.
