About the lesson
I'm here to build your child's confidence and skills in English.
- Which subject(s) do you teach?
Structured spelling course
Touch typing (great for dyslexic learners, child-friendly course)
I am autism-friendly and PDA-friendly.
- Tell me about your qualifications.
I am qualified to design and deliver tailored teaching programmes to those experiencing literacy difficulties, including dyslexia. The methods used are equally effective for those who would like rigorous support with literacy difficulties.
I have two qualifications at Master's level. I received a merit for my Post Graduate Certificate in Specific Learning Difficulties (Dyslexia teaching and assessment qualification). In 2014 I was awarded a Post Graduate Certificate in Autism and Asperger Syndrome, for which I received full marks. I hold a BA (Hons) English Language and Literature 2:1 from UCE (now Birmingham City University), and a Post Graduate Certificate in Education (Secondary) English.

Discounts on standard one hour lessons:
£5 discount for those in receipt of benefits.
£5 discount for home educated children.
I do not charge for holidays and illness.
- Where do you teach?
(Please note that I do not travel.)
Lessons take place in a dedicated room at the front of my house. Hartlebury is easily accessible from Kidderminster or Stourport-on-Severn. It is about twenty minutes from Worcester or Droitwich and half an hour from West or South Birmingham.
Parents may sit in on the lesson, or relax in the armchair in the hall if they wish to stay nearby.

- Which ages and levels do you teach?
I work with learners aged 6-16, some of whom have additional needs associated with dyslexia or autism.
- Do you have a personal message for students?
I'm here to build your child's confidence and skill in English.
English does not have to be boring or painful: it can be fun!
- What kind of experience do you have?
I taught English at secondary school, including GCSE, for nine years. (Read the reference from my former employer, uploaded onto this site.) I have been tutoring English since 2009, with a dyslexia specialism since 2010. I have also taught in primary schools. I have both personal and professional experience of dyslexia; autism; state, private and home education.
- Do you have an up-to-date DBS (Disclosure & Barring Service, formerly CRB) Certificate?
My son first went to Stella as struggling with his spelling was undermining his ability to succeed in English and other subjects.
In a short time there was a significant improvement in both his spelling and test results.
Stella also identified that he demonstrated mild dyslexia. We have spoken to his school and he is receiving additional support now.
Her teaching style is very engaging and she uses a wide range of techniques to enrich the learning process.
I would highly recommend Stella.
Very good tutor, helped our daughter achieve the exam results she was looking for.
