- Describe your arrangements for online tutoring.
I no longer tutor online, sorry.
- Do you have a personal message for students?
Many of my students have lost confidence in their mathematical abilities and haven't thrived in the classroom. One-to-one tutoring can help students to regain their confidence and rediscover the skills that were in them all along. Often there are gaps in their knowledge that need filling in too due to poor continuity of school staff, simply because there are not enough maths teachers to go round.
Students taking the QTS skills test to qualify for a teacher training course usually need to brush up their old GCSE maths skills and attempt several practice tests to improves their score. This applies to nursing students too. I send the practice tests by email.
- What kind of experience do you have?
18 years of teaching in schools, a College of Further Education, an Adult Learning Centre, and home tutoring. I am also an examiner for City and Guilds mathematics and NFER maths and science exams.
- Do you have an up-to-date DBS (Disclosure & Barring Service, formerly CRB) Certificate?
Yes. This is provided by NFER in Slough where I work part-time.
- Tell me about some of your current students.
I have several QTS students this summer who need a few sessions to improve their skills and timing for the numeracy test. GCSE students and younger are taking well-earned breaks this summer!
