Thanks for coming to view my profile! I'm an experienced and enthusiastic teacher with a diverse background as a freelancing musician.
- Which subject(s) do you teach?
I teach contemporary and classical Piano and Singing, and all the related bits that come with it like theory, composition and general musicianship.
- Tell me about your qualifications.
I have a BA (hons) from King's College London, a ABRSM diploma in Piano performance (dipABRSM) and a diploma in classical singing from Trinity College of Music (ATCL).
- How much do you charge?
I charge £35 per hour and £20 for half an hour.
- Where do you teach?
Unfortunately I don't do home visits, but I teach from my home in E8. I live off Dalston Lane and am close to Dalston Kingsland, Dalston Junction, Hackney Downs and Hackney Central. I'm very accessible by public transport, and there's metered on street parking and secure bike racks inside my apartment complex.
- When are you available?
My current teaching schedule is quite busy, but I will always try and make time for committed and enthusiastic students. When you get in touch let me know if there are any preferred days or times and I can see if it's possible to work around those. Weekday evenings and Saturday mornings are my busiest times for teaching, so there's a lot more scope if you're able to have a daytime lesson.
- Which ages and levels do you teach?
All ages, and all levels up to and including grade 8.
- Which qualifications do you prepare your students for?
ABRSM, Trinity and LCM grades, GCSE and A levels, and auditions prep.
- Do you have a personal message for students?
Learning music is a great way to challenge yourself, regardless of whether it's your profession or a hobby, it's something that you can carry with you for the rest of your life. Also, check out the articles that I've listed down the side - the benefits of learning a new instrument go beyond what you'd expect!
- What kind of experience do you have?
I have almost a decade of music teaching experience, and have worked with all ages and abilities. Aside from my private students, I also teach peripatetically at local schools in Hackney, and I run a Ukulele club at Clapton Park URC. I also run a yearly Christmas choir which people are welcome to join!
My full CV/qualifications are available on request.
I am also a professional piano accompanist, and am available for instrumentalists taking grades or for recitals. Fees vary depending on repertoire required.
- Do you have an up-to-date DBS (Disclosure & Barring Service, formerly CRB) Certificate?
- Do you belong to any professional organisations?
Incorporated Society of Musicians.
- Tell me about some of your current students.
I have a lot of children that I teach of KS1 and KS2 age through the schools I work for. I'm very confident with younger students, and they're a delight to work with.
I also have a lot of mature students and teenagers who all have different motivations for learning and instrument. For example, one of my students is a music teacher himself and is brushing up on his theory skills. Another student works for a law firm in the city and is taking up piano as a new skill to master. Another student is preparing for a degree in music, and is needing to get a better mark in his grade 8 piano so has come to me to retake it. I have another student who has recently retired and is making full use of his newly acquired free time with a variety of musical pursuits, one of which is learning to sing.
So, every one of my students is different and requires a tailor made approach which is the main reason why people come to me for private lessons. With a one on one approach, you can guarantee that your individual needs are being met, and those needs will vary from one person to another.

“I am very glad that I found Stephanie as my singing teacher. Stephanie is very refreshing as she listens to what her pupil wants to achieve and works with them rather than dictate to them what they should do. She has the rare ability of combining the right degree of being affirmative and encouraging with giving helpful comments and instructions for improvement. I have had two singing teachers before but Stephanie is easily the best. I really enjoy her lessons and would highly recommend her”
“A friend recommended Stephanie to me as a piano teacher for both myself and my son. She's very helpful and concise at explaining things, and always makes us feel at ease”
"Stephanie is a great tutor and responded well to emails about setting up a first lesson"
