About the lesson
I treat my students as individuals and have learnt how important it is to listen to them carefully at the beginning. We have to work together to achieve the best results.
- Which subject(s) do you teach?
I teach Biology, Chemistry and Physics up to GCSE level and Biology for AS and A level. I also prepare children for the 11 plus examination.
- Tell me about your qualifications.
I have a BA in Natural Sciences from the University of Cambridge and a PhD in Biochemistry also from Cambridge.
- How much do you charge?
For an hour of tuition I charge £30 for all subjects. The charge is reduced to £20 each for two students and £15 each for three. For two hours tuition, the charge is £50 for a single student, £30 each for a group of two and £25 each for three students.
- Where do you teach?
I teach at my students' homes and am based in Ealing. I can travel to other parts of West London but the difficulty of travelling in the early evening is a factor. Congestion is more significant than mileage in this regard.
- When are you available?
I am available to teach in the early evening between 3:30 and 7:30, usually in sessions of one hour
- Which ages and levels do you teach?
I teach 11 plus students in year 5 / 6 and Chemistry and Physics students to GCSE level. For Biology, I offer tuition at all levels - GCSE, AS and A level. I also have experience with iGCSE courses.
- Which qualifications do you prepare your students for?
I prepare students for 11 plus entrance exams (Tiffin, QE boys, Henrietta Barnett and the Slough group of grammar schools) and for science subjects to GCSE level with Biology continuing through AS and A levels.
- Do you have a personal message for students?
Whatever your reason for seeking tuition, please don't think that I can pass your exams for you. We both have to work hard if we are to get the grades you deserve.
- What kind of experience do you have?
For most of my career I have been a lecturer and research worker at Imperial College specialising in Molecular Biology. Since (early) retiring I have been spending my days devising 11 plus questions and the early evenings tutoring. I have three children the oldest of whom is just completing his GCSE year while the youngest is just about to start his secondary education
- Do you have an up-to-date DBS (Disclosure & Barring Service, formerly CRB) Certificate?
- Tell me about some of your current students.
Both this year's 11 plus students were successful, gaining entrance to Tiffin (girls) and QE (boys) grammar schools. I have 3 students currently taking science GCSE's.
