I am a strength and conditioning coach, and personal trainer, who has been involved with coaching for sport and general fitness, at one level or another, for almost 30 years.

Methodology

My classes are geared to each client and their individual goals. Whether you wish to improve your performance in a specific sport, or simply wish to lose some weight, I can design a program which make this achievable.

I appreciate that we all learn at different rates and in different ways, so I always try to work at the speed of the student, answering all their questions, to the best of my ability and shaping the class to their specific needs and requirements.

Background

I am a strength and conditioning coach, and personal trainer. I have been involved with coaching for sport at one level or another, for almost 30 years, including my time training at various martial arts clubs and gyms around the UK and Europe. I have been involved in the industry, as a professional, for over a decade. In that time, I have had the opportunity to work with people of all ages and abilities, from kids’ rugby clubs to judo and Brazilian jiu-jitsu players representing their clubs, region and even country. I have worked, in a private capacity with British and American military personnel, as well as emergency services professionals such as police and fire personnel. I have also worked with clients to overcome mobility problems and illnesses, from broken bones and torn ligaments to diabetes and autoimmune disease. I pride myself on being able to asses a client’s specific needs and to provide them with well-rounded, periodised, strength and conditioning, or general fitness, and nutritional program, which will give them the specific results they are looking for.

• As strength and conditioning coach of the Tramontana Rugby Club, I drove down the injury rate by over 60%, in the first season, primarily by introducing mobility assessments and prescriptive strength and conditioning programs.
• Provided professional professional padel player, with a strength and conditioning program, in part enabling him to achieve Spanish regional and national ranking in 2014.
• Worked with GB team Judo player to increase his strength and power output when transitioning from the UK to the Spanish league.
• Worked with 15th and 2nd dan blackbelt (Ninjutsu and Gracie Ju Jitsu, respectively), self defence expert, and film/stunt advisor, to improve his strength and mobility for the purposes of improving his performance in various martial arts.

ACHIEVEMENTS
• Founded Grit – Fitness and Nutrition
• As strength and conditioning coach of the Tramontana Rugby Club, I drove down the injury rate by over 60%, in the first season, primarily by introducing mobility assessments and prescriptive strength and conditioning programs.
• Developed a strength and conditioning programming style geared towards rugby, martial arts and other contact sports.
• Provided professional padel player, Jordi Sintes, with a strength and conditioning program, in part enabling him to achieve Spanish regional and national ranking in 2014.
• Worked with Judo player Scott Perkins to increase his strength and power output when transitioning from the UK to the Spanish league.
• Travelled and worked all over Europe and Russia, on a monthly basis, to provide private clients with fitness programs geared to weight-loss and the correction or maintenance of various metabolic diseases.
• Worked with 15th and 2nd dan blackbelt (Ninjutsu and Gracie Ju Jitsu, respectively), self defence expert, and film/stunt advisor, Simon Yeo, to improve his strength and mobility for the purposes of improving his performance in various martial arts.


WORK EXPERIENCE

2013 - Present – Owner and operator of Grit – Fitness and Nutrition
• Set up and operated The Grit Pit, private training facility, in Mahon, Spain, in late 2013.
• Work with a broad range of clients, from professional athletes and Guardia Civil (Spanish national police) to children and pensioners, to achieve specific goals.
• Travelled as far afield as New York, Moscow and Bangkok, as fitness advisor and trainer to private clients of various nationalities.
• Worked with clients with autoimmune and metabolic disease to improve their condition through a well-thought-out fitness and nutritional program.

2011 - 2013 – Personal Trainer – Master’s Gym – Mahon (Menorca)
• Assessed and programmed for clients of varying abilities
• Taught clients to use equipment ranging from machines to free-weights, barbells and kettlebells
• Trained, reassessed, maintained and progressed clients

2011 - 2013 – Strength and Conditioning Coach – Tramontana Rugby Club
• Assessed the mobility, strength and cardiovascular fitness of each member of the first and lady’s teams.
• Designed general mobility, strength and conditioning programs for the teams as a whole.
• Designed individual programs for those members of the teams that were lacking in certain aspects of their ability to perform on the pitch.
• Reduced the injury rate by over 60% in the first season.
