Student of Natural Sciences at Cambridge teaching chemistry online - I have three silver medals from the International Chemistry olympiad and five years of practice in teaching
- By webcam
1st lesson free!
For students that DO NOT STRUGGLE with chemistry at school and they want to learn new concepts:
There are two main approaches to teaching chemistry. I can first explain more abstract and general principles and then apply those to individual cases (reactions). Or I can explain individual reactions and then show general and abstract connections between them. Depending on the student's preferences I choose one of those. The actual structure of the lesson is approximately this
1. I talk about a new topic for 10-20 minutes
2. We go over simple problems that help greatly with understanding this new topic
3. We repeat the previous until the time runs out
4. At the end of the lesson, I leave the student with more challenging and individually crafted problems that ideally incorporate the contents of all previous lessons.
5. After each lesson, I write a summary of the key points covered in the lesson so the student is not that worried about taking notes
For students that DO STRUGGLE with chemistry at school and they want to understand the material that is being examined:
If the students send me what they are struggling with I prepare many easy problems that should guide the student through the topic and we would go over them during the lesson. I also tend to talk a lot about how particular knowledge can be used in everyday life - there where possible.
The above are rough ideas on how I approach chemistry teaching. I would like to discuss what exactly we will be doing during the lessons in the first free class.
# Cambridge student - 2nd year of Natural sciences
# Three silver medals from the International Chemistry Olympiad (2017 Bangkok; 2018 Prague & Bratislava; 2019 Paris)
# Gold medal from Europian Union Science Olympiad (2017 Copenhagen)
# Silver medal from International Mendeleev Olympiad (2019 St. Petersburg)
# Five years of practice in teaching
-I lectured a Chemistry course for beginners in Prague
-Worked for the Center for Talented youth
-Volunteered in the STIMULUS project organised by the Center for Mathematical Sciences
-I create educative tasks for chemistry competitions (for example Cambridge Chemistry Race)
