I possess a diverse background in the field of Literature, and have been working in administration and writing and proofreading services for over 12 years. There is little that I am not familiar with, and able to instruct on, when it comes to the written word.
My teaching style aims to draw out weaknesses and focus on them through discussion, in order to lead to greater understanding and, indeed, appreciation for the subject/topic at hand. I thoroughly believe in the benefits of reading the material aloud, also, rather than sticking with a dry perusal and the taking of notes only.
I structure my lessons around what has just been taught and what will next be taught in students' school lessons, so that the two methods of instruction are complimentary to one another. Homework will be set, but not an onerous amount.
My overall goal is to nurture students' love of Literature in general, which will stay with them into the real-world scenario, as well as achieve those sought-after grades.
20 GBP basic rate per hour from KS3. Dependent on distance necessary to travel, this will have a discretionary petrol charge added. GCSE and A Level and higher level fees are open to negotiation as pertains to requirements.
Private tutoring one-hour sessions in Primary and KS2 Literacy, and GCSE English Language and Literature, in the West Surrey area - this role required me to drive to students’ homes to conduct sessions and follow up the hour-long slot with a session report that summarised what was taught within the lesson and what had been set as ‘homework’ for the next. My students included Gifted & Talented 9 year old twins and GCSE students on the AQA board within this locale.
Travelling to students’ homes, so far I have also assisted a pair of A-Level students (in a group lesson) with the Shakespeare element of their OCR exam, as well as aiding a 6 year old boy with his handwriting skills and reading aloud. I have taken on a Year 7 KS3 student who needed help with comprehension, spelling, and reading aloud, as well as a Year 5 KS2 student who wished to polish up her English skills for the 11+ exam.
