I definitely prefer teaching in person than online. My teaching style is very dependent on the student, though the general style is based on diagrams, highlighting intertopic links and embedding as much information as possible in logical stories with occasional rhyming sequence for ease of remembering. Particularly for Biology, I stress the need for developing the skill of answering application questions and walk the students step by step through the thinking process. For Geography, when explaining concepts, I draw the attention to the complexity of implementing them in real life which is a skill sought after by examinators. Personal experience with AQA exam board for Biology and Edexcel for Geography.
I like to get a short brief of what it is the student would like to discuss during the lesson a day or at least few hours prior, to make the most out of the actual tutoring time together. I do not usually assign homework as such but do, of course, ask for particular things to be revised or practiced. I provide free emailing service for students with emergency questions.
After graduating on top of the sixth I've taken up a year of field investigations (biology + geography) in Indonesia. Having recently returned, changed my degree choice from Genetics to Geography and plan to begin my study in the next academic year at the University of Oxford.
Previously offered private tutoring in Maths, now however, only cover the required calculation skills for Biology and Geography.
