I've taught English and Maths at a top London prep school (St Philip's; rated outstanding) for three years. Six of my pupils gained entry to City of London Boys this year, following my training. I've also successfully prepped children for entry to KCS Wimbledon, Eton, Westminster, Haberdashers, QE Grammar, and Henrietta Barnett.
I am well-versed in 11+, pre-tests, and 13+ and supply my own material in well structured lessons. I very much respond to the child's way of working to quickly get to the root of any problems. I help them understand the fundamentals of a mathematic or English principle, before giving them rigorous practice - often creating questions that apply specifically to their experiences and interests.
I have a first in English from Bristol, a Masters from Oxford in Politics, and I am a PhD candidate in English at Royal Holloway.
I am fun and naturally funny, tap into a student's natural interests, and train them rigourously in the ways of 11+ and 13+. I have bespoke material. There is no need for you to supply papers!
I absolutely love what I do. Previously, I was a BBC & Channel Four television producer, and then a specialist on the political economy of India
Teacher, Maths and English, St Philip's School, Kensington (Sept 2016 - July 2019)
I teach Year 5 and Year 6 at a prep school rated 'Outstanding', regularly shepherding at least five boys a year into the best academic schools, including Westminster, Eton, Harrow, KCS Wimbledon, City of London.
Kids can tell I love my subjects and I transmit that enthusiasm to them; I create questions in Maths that are linked to their interests.
I teach across the ability range, using a range of approaches that encourages the best in students. I have also successfully taught a number of SEN students.
At school, I set up the 'Pretest club' to help students with BOFA and Keystone practice tests. As well as paper and pen, I also use magic whiteboards and touch screens.
As a private tutor - my 11+ and 13+ pupils have gained entry to UCS Hampstead, QE Boys, Merchant Taylor's and Highgate (2016 - 2019).

She found Nigel's comprehension and writing prep very useful, which ensured she was able to get the higher marks. Nigel really helped in explaining word problems and quicker methods in the Maths..." Mrs Bhardwaj, Harrow
"Derin applied to Habs and Henrietta Barnett. She found the comprehension exercises covered by Nigel at BYT helped her structure her answers well in Henrietta Barnett's tougher comprehension tests. Derin thoroughly enjoyed the Year 6 extension course and found Nigel's Maths and English teaching rigorous and fun." Mrs Butler, Harrow
"Avanti applied to North London Collegiate and Haberdasher's and got in with flying colours! Nigel's teaching at BYT boosted her confidence across Reasoning, English and Maths and she felt very well prepared." Mrs Chilkoti, Harrow

Perfect! We could not be more pleased with our experience with Nigel who has been teaching maths and Engish to my 11 year old son for 6 months now. We saw a notable rise in my son's understanding in both subjects as well as his confidence level. Above all, my son genuinely enjoys and looks forward to the lesson thanks to Nigel's fun and stiumulating teaching style.
Kai is a pleasure to teach. Over the months he has gained a stronger grasp of his mathematical methods. He has also gained a better sense of how to answer the more challenging answers in comprehension. He is steadily ironing out the unforced errors in his maths answers, and improving his spelling (which we will continue to work on).
Nigel is an incredibly knowledgeable and patient teacher. He has an energetic and yet calming approach, as well as a wealth of different strategies that he uses to help build knowledge, understanding and confidence in pupils.
Nigel Singh teaches with great enthusiasm and structure. He makes the lessons fun and explains useful ways for children to orientate all english literature and language tasks. He taught my son both in a school environment and on a one to one and I can't recommend him enough.
I worked with Nigel at a preparatory school in London and he is a warm and interesting person. I had the pleasure of seeing him teach a few times and he was enthusiastic, engaging, passionate, and rigorous. He made Maths and English lessons interesting, and got excellent results. I also saw him do 1:1 work with pupils and his interest in helping them was clear - he really wanted the best for each student as was willing to put a lot of effort into helping them achieve it. I would have loved to have had someone like him as a tutor when I was that age.
Nigel taught my son Maths and English in year 5. He brought out my son's talent in English, and encouraged him in Maths. My son said Nigel was one of the best teachers he ever had.
