An experienced, enthusiastic and patient flautist who enjoys teaching others of all ages and abilities.
- Which subject(s) do you teach?
I teach the Flute and Music Theory.
- Tell me about your qualifications.
I have a Performance Diploma for flute, with distinction, from the Associated Board of the Royal Schools of Music. I also have Grade 8 flute with distinction, Grade 8 piano and Grade 5 music theory. I have 3 A levels, including music, all at A grade and I have just completed my third year at the Royal College of Music studying for a BMus Hons degree.
- How much do you charge?
For flute lessons I charge: £25 per hour and £20 for 45 minutes. For group lessons I will charge an extra £5 per child per hour (maximum group size of 4 students).
For music theory lessons: apply sames rates as above.
- Where do you teach?
I am happy to travel to the student's home preferably in the West London area but will also consider travelling further afield (although this may incur a small travelling fee).
- When are you available?
I am not available to teach on Saturdays. However, apart from that my timetable is relatively flexible so it would not be difficult to find a convenient time for both the pupil and myself.
- Which ages and levels do you teach?
I am able to teach the flute from absolute beginner level up to Grade 8. I am happy to put students of all ages forward for graded exams or teach people who just want to learn to play for fun.
In terms of music theory, I teach from Grade 1 up to and including Grade 5.
- What kind of experience do you have?
I have previous teaching experience, including individual and group lessons as well as coaching whole ensembles. I started teaching the flute in 2006 and have since then had private pupils and also set up, organised and rehearsed a flute ensemble at my old school. I also study the art of teaching as part of my degree.
In terms of performing experience, I studied at the Junior Guildhall School of Music and Drama for 2 years playing principal flute in the symphony orchestra which performed in many of the renowned concert venues across London and England. During my time there I also had the opportunity to perform as a soloist at several venues including St. Martins in the Field. Within the Royal College of Music I play regularly with the Sinfonietta orchestra, in chamber concerts with the Mulberry wind quintet (a student formed ensemble) and have taken educational workshops in schools. I also play with other orchestras in London such as the University of London Symphony Orchestra and the Clic Sargent Symphony Orchestra.
- Do you have an up-to-date DBS (Disclosure & Barring Service, formerly CRB) Certificate?
- Where and with whom did you train?
At the Royal College of Music I have studied flute under Sue Thomas and Jaime Martin and piccolo with Kathleen Stevenson. I have also had lessons with and taken part in masterclasses from Sarah Newbold, Daniel Pailthorpe, Robert Winn, Michael Cox, Peter Lloyd, Paul Edmund-Davies, Phillipa Davies and Kate Hill.
