- Which subject(s) do you teach?
I teach all Sciences to GCSE / KS4 level. At AS/A2 level I teach Biology, Chemistry and Psychology. I can also teach Psychology & Statistics to Undergraduate level.
- Tell me about your qualifications.
I completed my PGCE at Kings College London and have been a qualified teacher for 7 years.
I currently hold a Graduate Diploma in Psychology (Class I / Distinction) from Newcastle University and a BA(hons) in Anthropology from Durham University.
- How much do you charge?
As I am a fully qualified teacher standard lessons are £20 per hour.
I will teach groups of 3-6 at £10 per learner per hour. Educational visits (part of home schooling or coursework catch up) are the standard fee plus entrance fees etc. Consultations are free.
- Where do you teach?
I am happy to teach at either my or your home, though I prefer to teach in libraries, especially if there will be no parent at home when I visit. I am also happy to teach in any public area, museums and gardens (etc) if hired to help with coursework or as part of home schooling.
- When are you available?
Monday to Friday 9am till 8pm. Saturdays by negotiation.
- Which ages and levels do you teach?
I teach from 11 years old up to adult at secondary and undergraduate level.
- Describe your arrangements for online tutoring.
Tutorials can be held via Instant messaging using MSN, though arrangements can be made to accommodate different IM providers and clients. Learning aids will be emailed prior to the lesson. I have no webcam facilities at the moment, but if required this can be arranged.
- What kind of experience do you have?
I have been teaching since 2001 in secondary schools around England. I have taught all ability ranges from those with specific and general learning difficulties to those who are gifted and talented. I have specific professional training in educating outside of the classroom and in variety of teaching and learning skills.
I am currently employed by Durham Ethnic Minority and Traveller Achievement Association where I work as an Advisory Support Teacher for students who have English as an Additional Language.
- Do you have an up-to-date DBS (Disclosure & Barring Service, formerly CRB) Certificate?
I currently hold an up-to-date CRB and work full time for Durham County Children and Young Person's Services (which also carried out a separate Enhanced CRB check for me)
- Do you belong to any professional organisations?
I belong to the Association for Science Education and the National Union of Teachers.
- Tell me about some of your current students.
I am currently tutoring Statistics for Social Sciences to a Mature Undergraduate as well as tutoring two GCSE students, one in particular requiring help with their coursework.
This does mean that I am currently fully booked as I tutor them more than once a week.
