Tara - Catford - Support for Students with a handicap

Methodology

I offer clarinet, flute, saxophone and recorder tuition and I have a special interest in providing music tuition to children and young people who experience special educational needs (SEN) or additional needs.

- Which subject(s) do you teach?

I offer individual lessons on the clarinet, flute, saxophone and recorder. I prepare students for ABRSM, ABRSM Jazz and Trinity Guildhall examinations. In addition to instrumental tuition I aim to support the development of my students' creativity through activities including improvisation, composition (using improvisation and notation) musical games and song.

- Tell me about your qualifications.

BMus (Hons) Music degree from Goldsmiths, University of London
Music Therapy Masters degree from Roehampton University.

- How much do you charge?

I charge £12 for a 30 minute individual lesson and £18 for a 45 minute lesson. I offer a free trial lesson.

- Where do you teach?

I teach mainly from home but I am willing to consider traveling to students' homes. I work in south-east London.

- When are you available?

I am available on Monday and Thursday from 3.30pm and Saturday morning.

- Which ages and levels do you teach?

I am happy to teach all ages and skills - complete beginners are very welcome.

- Which qualifications do you prepare your students for?

I prepare students for ABRSM, ABRSM Jazz and Trinity Guildhall examinations.

- Do you have a personal message for students?

Learning an instrument can be a wonderful way to learn new skills, increase your confidence and meet new people. I feel privileged as a teacher to accompany my students on their individual musical journeys and see where they go!

Experience

- What kind of experience do you have?

I have been a general woodwind teacher since 2002. I have worked privately in schools in west London and for Essex Music Service. I have experience teaching individual and group lessons with students of all ages. I currently work for Sutton Music Service and Redbridge Music Service. I prepare students for instrumental, GCSE and A-level examinations and I am involved in supporting ensemble work. I teach music theory to grade 5 standard and I am a tutor for Whole Class Instrumental Tuition projects in Sutton.
Since 2009 I have also worked as a music therapist with children and young people aged 3 - 19.

- Do you have an up-to-date DBS (Disclosure & Barring Service, formerly CRB) Certificate?

I have enhanced disclosure CRB from both of my current employers.

- Do you belong to any professional organisations?

I am registered with the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC registration number AS13610) and I am a member of the British Association of Music Therapy (BAMT).
