Learning Support Assistant | Secondary School:
This role included assisting teachers across a variety of subjects, supporting students aged 11-16, working with the same range of students in small groups and one-on-one within the classroom environment; I also conducted reading sessions with students individually. This role greatly broadened my knowledge of special educational needs, and expanded my experience of working within a mainstream primary school environment.
Learning Mentor | Pupil Referral Unit:
This involved both group and one-on-one mentoring of Year 11 students with various behavioural problems, encouraging them to re-engage with their education by providing guidance and support. Here I improved my mentoring skills and my ability to form strong bonds in order to help young people.
Peer Mentor | Primary School:
This role incorporated one-on-one mentoring of Year 6 students in a ten-week programme, delivering and partaking in games and activities, interacting with the children as a way of building a positive relationship and consequently increasing their confidence, self-belief and social skills.
