Teaching Micro-Economics, Game Theory, Econometrics and Statistics intuitively all the way up to your test!

Methodology

I usually teach undergraduate students that need help revising before an exam. Oftentimes I also teach Master's students who need to fill in some gap or have switched field.

Most often I teach online, doing a mix of theory and exercise, using an interactive whiteboard and sharing my screen. Students get to keep any note we make together.

Experience

I usually teach undergraduate students that need help revising before an exam. Oftentimes I also teach Master's students who need to fill in some gap or have switched field.

I also help students with the quantitive part of their dissertation or dissertation proposal.

Most often I teach online, doing a mix of theory and exercise, using an interactive whiteboard and sharing my screen while I type high quality notes for the student to keep. Many people have been having great result with this method and I am constantly improving it.

Perfect! I very much enjoyed my experience with Gian Lorenzo. Specifically, not only does he walk you through solutions to problems, but he also explains the probability theory behind both the answers and the questions. His tutorials are a pleasure and I plan to retain him for more sessions. I highly recommend him...

Farida

Perfect! He is an excellent tutor who tries to help as much as he can. very supportive, I encourage you to hire him

Gian Lorenzo's response

Farida is a smart first year PhD. Typically the first year of the PhD is a time needed to orient and learn the new tools that are needed during research.

I have recommended her to invest some time in sitting some class on non-parametric regression and more generally in inferential statistics as needed.

I remain avaialable for future guidance :)

Andreas

Perfect! Gian Lorenzo is a fantastic game theory tutor. In just a few short weeks he has helped me overcome some of my greatest difficulties, using a combination of expertise and strong teaching methods. He goes far beyond the syllabus, making sure to fill in all gaps that could be helpful in understanding what is an extremely complicated subject. For game theory, maths, economics, or any other subject he may teach, I recommend you sign up with Gian Lorenzo!

Gian Lorenzo's response

Having a great time teaching Game Theory to Andreas for his exam at Bocconi!

Perfect! Mr Lorenzo is very friendly and approachable. More importantly, he is an excellent teacher with a fantastic ability to keep the classes both interesting and detailed as possible. I was tutored in a topic beyond my curriculum so that I could gain a better grasp of the subject. Mr Lorenzo used various real-life applications of what I was learning throughout the class, this was really helpful for me as it enabled me to fortify my knowledge in the topic. I highly recommend Mr Lorenzo.

Gian Lorenzo's response

Gian Lorenzo has been tutoring me for 2 years full time, and I couldn't be happier. He is extremely resourceful and well prepared both in Maths and Economics; he has been able to tutor me in Game Theory, Microeconomics, Macro-economics, Econometrics, and Finance, both at the graduate and undergraduate level. He has been flexible and patient; focussed but warm; a teacher and a great friend throughout these two years. He has helped me obtain all the results I wanted.

I could not recommend Gian Lorenzo more.

I had the pleasure to work with Gian during his PhD at Warwick University closely. His passion and dedication to teaching are second only to his ability and skills to do it. He is really capable of explaining clearly even the most complex argument making the life of the student very easy. Finally, it completes the package his patience and deep understanding of the subject. I highly recommend Gian as Tutor.

Andrea

I have worked together with Gian teaching economics and statistics. He's a patient, skilled, and motivated teacher with a knack for making even the more tricky concepts easy and intuitive.

I have received tuition from Gian in writing an undergraduate dissertation. He sets high expectations for the pupil and then provides the support needed to excel. Gian provided me guidance in my overall thesis. He also gave me insights into the particular quantitative methods required to complete the dissertation. His help in the econometric aspect of the research project not only helped me get a result which I was pleased with, but also consolidated my knowledge and understanding of econometric techniques. He was also very supportive in the essay writing aspects of the dissertation and in my other final year modules. Gian has in-depth knowledge of economics and econometrics. I felt like I received both tutoring and mentoring by Gian, I can only recommend.

Interview with Gian Lorenzo

QUESTION 01 | 08
When did you develop an interest in your chosen field and in private tutoring?
Gian Lorenzo — The last year of high school I started appreciating mathematics, thanks to an incredibly good tutor in my hometown. After that I went into university in economics and after passing mathematics I started tutoring privately for other students in years below.
QUESTION 02 | 08
Tell us more about the subject you teach, the topics you like to discuss with students (and possibly those you like a little less).
Gian Lorenzo — I teach two things, essentially, statistics -- from the ground up with the basics of probability up to the more complicated stuff in hypothesis testing and econometrics -- and microeconomics -- including advanced game theory.

The part I like the most is the more theoretical and mathematical bit, but I always try and make it understandable using examples.
QUESTION 03 | 08
Did you have any role models; a teacher that inspired you?
Gian Lorenzo — I appreciated two qualities in my teachers: their ability to calmly and gently explain things by step (which at the time blew my mind away) and a good dose of humor to make lesson lighter and more enjoyable. I do my best to adhere to their examples.
QUESTION 04 | 08
What do you think are the qualities required to be a good tutor?
Gian Lorenzo — A solid knowledge of the materials, a great deal of patience
QUESTION 05 | 08
Provide a valuable anecdote related to your subject or your days at school.
Gian Lorenzo — I remember discovering limits and being amazed at the beauty of this definition surrounding infinities, it amazed me and that motivation stuck with me and helped me in choosing a mathematical subject later on.
QUESTION 06 | 08
What were the difficulties or challenges you faced or still facing in your subject?
Gian Lorenzo — I am not particularly quick in mental calculations compared to my peers XD, it forces me to be very thorough!
QUESTION 07 | 08
Do you have a particular passion? Is it teaching in general or an element of the subject or something completely different?
Gian Lorenzo — Outside of teaching, I have a passion for music and photography.
QUESTION 08 | 08
What makes you a Superprof (besides answering this interview questions :-P) ?
Gian Lorenzo — Having not been the strongest student of mathematics, I have a keen eye for understanding where the mistakes a student makes come from and for organizing and summarizing knowledge to fill those gaps. I also happen to enjoy teaching and always establish good rapport with my long term students.
