Communication method, focus on the production tasks and practical use of language in live situations is my approach to teaching. It does not mean that I ignore academic aspects of the Language. I have always tried to make my students be good at grammar, pronunciation, choice of words together with clear articulation and proper intonation. More than 80 percent of them had improved their levels from “Beginner’s “to “Advanced “levels within an academic year, passed their final exams with flying colours and even obtained FCE, CAE and CPE certificates.
Most people I have worked with consider me to be an interesting and smart interlocutor. I can give useful advice on a variety of issues including studies and work.
“All work and no play” is not my cup of tea. I do realise that process of learning-teaching should include language games, entertaining and interactive activities to make both parties have positive feelings and emotions. My method is based on a mix of teaching materials: students’ books, self-made handouts, social media, PowerPoint etc.

As you can notice from the details provided above, I have worked as an English teacher for almost 25 years. My educational background and work at different educational Institutions, both in Latvia and the UK, have equipped me with relevant professional and interpersonal skills to meet most requirements.
College of Economics was a challenge as I was supposed to focus not only on General English, which I was mainly trained for, but also on Business English. Most of my students were from 16 to 25+. As there was no special curriculum for the subject at the College, I composed it myself, referring to Cambridge standards and requirements. The Curriculum was accredited by Latvian Ministry of Education.
During my work at Gymnasia I had students from 10 to 18 years old. My relationship with students and the staff had always been based on tolerance, understanding and purposeful co-operation. I used to organise extra-curricular language activities for students and for teachers to improve the school performance. One of my A-Level students won an All National Olympiad in English. From 2005 to 2007 I was invited by the National Examination Centre to mark the National Examination Papers. My professional and English skills were widely recognised by the local community and businesses where I was often invited to run English courses.
Work for EF Oxford Language School has equipped me with new teaching and methodological skills, expanded my comprehension of student’s needs and expectations as well as familiarised me with cross-cultural differences and similarities. I had to adapt to a multinational environment with representatives of different cultural, religious and social backgrounds. To perform well and to conform to the position I have always tried to follow SMSC rules set by Ofsted and followed Fundamental British Values (Democracy, the Rule of Law, Individual Liberty and mutual respect for and tolerance of those with different faith and beliefsI have taught students of different levels. I was regularly appointed to invigilate Cambridge Exams. My performance was not limited only by timetable. I used to take our students on excursions around Oxford as well as to go on trips to different English towns and cities.
One of my strong points is rich experience of working with EFL pupils/students. Since English is not my mother tongue and it has taken me more than 30 years to learn, improve and master it, I am well aware of a variety of challenges learners can face. I feel that I can choose and implement a number of methods, devises and activities to make teaching-learning process more effective.
I am a team player and have always had friendly relationship with my students and colleagues. Most of them consider me to be a nice, supportive, extraverted, tolerant, professional person with a good sense of humour. I do accept fair criticism and would do as much as I can to improve.
