I enjoy so much teaching GCSE English Language. I do teach literature also, but being that I'm an examiner in English Language that's where my heart is. As an English examiner my ethos is to teach my students to have the eye of an examiner and I have skilled them for life.
The students I am currently teaching are GCSE re-sit students. I have worked with WJEC, EDEXCEL and AQA exam boards. All I ask my students, regarding English, is they do as I tell them and of course they will pass.
Learning is a two way thing, so just be yourself and don't ever think there's an age limit to learn.
I do ask that you have great internet connection in order to have enjoyable lessons.
Oh and by the way, I have a degree in English Language & Linguistics and Education.
I have successfully taught English Lit and Lang at KS3 -5, as well as English media and ESOL, also to adults and also private tutoring. I have taught in classes as big as thirty-five in a class to ten in the class. As well as one-to-one.
In addition to my degree of English Language and Linguistics & Education, I have been awarded Coaching Training (tutoring teachers) and ESL Training in the mainstream school. I have taught English at KS3 -5, ESOL, adults and as well private tutoring.
As well as this I have taught at all levels, Skills for Life for over two years, OCR and Cambridge qualification. I was responsible for registering The Olive School my previous place of work, as an authentic centre for OCR Entry Level courses and as well Cambridge & University courses. I led as an interlocutor for candidates.
As a result of my skills I privately tutor adults, preparing them for ESOL exams and as well helping to improve their spoken language. Whilst working as an EFL teacher at Radcliffe College I successfully taught English to EAL adult learners, at elementary and intermediate levels, engaging them in speaking scenarios and situations, group work and activities. In addition to this I devised new resources.
I am currently working as an examiner for AQA and teach at Islington College with young learners aged between 16-19 plus. I have successfully managed to raise attainment levels, from one level to another and in some cases a movement of two levels!
While working at Nacro (PRU) as a Key Stage 4 Schools Tutor my aim was to create a programme of study suitable for pupil’s educational requirements; the learners were aged 14-18 years. It would utilise their current skills and make these transferable which would help pupils to return to the mainstream setting or further education or employment. I introduced OCR Functional Skills after having examined pupil's entry tests, I felt this unit would help stretch them and raise standards. This programme was most effective and noted in the change and enthusiasm of the learners.
As a previous English teacher at Northumberland Park Community School (NPCS), my intention was to encourage and promote all kinds of learning experiences. This was possible through workshops led by myself in order to aid Year 10/11 students with AQA GCSE coursework. Moreover I have worked with colleagues conducting Easter Revision classes.
During my time at NPCS and as well other establishments I have invigilated exams, written subject reports, IEPs, moderated and marked GCSE papers and controlled assessment/test papers. I am fully experienced in monitoring and tracking of pupils. I was a part of an initiative to monitor and track particular groups to ensure pupil progression.
During my role as Deputy Head of year at NCPS I managed attendance and punctuality of a year group. I was successfully in raising these. I introduced initiatives with the enlisted help of various companies such as Tesco’s, Woolworths at the time, educational sites such as HMS Belfast and football teams such as Tottenham Hotspurs to help with the programme of good attendance and punctuality which was rewarded accordingly.
I have worked and liaised extensively with learning mentors and SEN colleagues promoting education for all. This has been achieved through a collaboration of ideas and the producing of resources for ESOL and less abled students, as well as students with severe disabilities, behavioural issues or learning disabilities. My aim is to always promote positive images for all and treat each person equally, regardless of ability, race, background or religion.
While teaching at The Olive School (PRU) I led in re-organising resources concurrent with the Literacy Strategy and was solely responsible for producing a whole school Literacy Policy. I established the importance of a Special Needs Register that would identify a list of students with various needs and as well the need for literacy across the curriculum; I therefore set up a new initiative to encourage reading across the school. As a result of this, a Reading Programme was also launched and pupils with specific learning needs were identified as focal target groups.
I consider my personality my experience and my training all good reasons for you to choose me as your personal English tutor.
