I tend to teach with a syllabus in mind seeing as my students have all been students. Depending on what year they’re in and what exam they are looking to prepare for I like to first talk with the student and establish their strengths and doubts are and what they think they need the most help with. Then from that I develop a personalised learning plan that is most effective in supporting what they’re already learning at school and according to their specific exam board criteria. Overall as students are already learning the core things they need to know at school, my job is to consolidate that, make sure there are no gaps and provide them with the technique and confidence in both content and expression that allows them to feel well-informed and comfortable in tackling exams - and if I can provoke a genuine interest in literature that’s a bonus!
I’m currently in the last year of my degree studying English literature and I’ve had a passion for it ever since primary school. I have some experience with individual tutoring and I’m really excited to gain more experience and be able to constantly improve my teaching techniques as I want to continue teaching when I finish my degree.
