Overall, lessons are very practice based. The aim is for each student to have an exercise book filled with clear notes and examples on the topic they struggle with, and a second book filled with practice questions answered correctly.
One to one lessons start with a five minute discussion about what they need to know and what they are struggling with. I then take them through the rules to approaching questions for the exam, similar to a lecture. This should take no longer than ten minutes. Then the majority of the session is putting those rules into practice by doing questions from exercise books. Building on this, exam questions would then be practiced. To solidify these skills, they would be practiced at the start of each session, before building onto other skills.
Group lessons would have a similar style, however whilst I would be explaining one topic to one student, I would have another student practice one of the topics they struggle with, in order to minimize waiting within sessions.
My previous experience has been tutoring first year students for the School of PPE at the University of York. I was asked back to tutor for a second year, however, given it was such a strong team, I felt tutoring local GCSE students would allow me to give the most to as many people as possible.
There are no cancellation fees.

I needed a maths tutor last summer and a friend introduced me to James. He is honestly the most prepared and organised person I have worked with. James was incredibly patient, especially when the content was complicated, which prevented me from getting frustrated. He was always accommodating and very diligent in everything he did. If you need a maths tutor make sure its James.
James is amazing! He’s really helped me understand some complex concepts by simplifying them into a digestible format.
