- Tell me about your qualifications.
I have an MA in Music from the University of York and a Graduate Diploma in Music from Huddersfield Polytechnic. At both institutions I specialised in flute with piano as a second study.
- How much do you charge?
My hourly rate for lessons is £33.00 for lessons held at my home. For lessons held at student's homes, my hourly rate is £35.00
- Where do you teach?
I teach at home but am willing to travel to students' homes in York. An additional fee for lessons in a student's home may apply, please contact me for further details.
- When are you available?
I teach Monday-Friday during the day and early evenings. I teach during school holidays by arrangement with students.
- Which ages and levels do you teach?
All ages, all levels.
- Which qualifications do you prepare your students for?
ABRSM examinations (classical and jazz). ABRSM Diploma for flute.
- Do you have a personal message for students?
Inspiration and excellence is my aim in teaching!
- What kind of experience do you have?
I have taught privately for many years. Latterly I was Director of Music at an independent school outside York, where I was responsible for all the music activities across the school, including instrumental lessons. I have played flute and piano in many different ensembles over the years. My recent playing experience includes classical concerts, bands and session work as a flute player.
- Do you have an up-to-date DBS (Disclosure & Barring Service, formerly CRB) Certificate?
Yes, I have an enhanced DBS.
- Where and with whom did you train?
I trained with John Barrow between 1985 and 2001 at Hudderfield Polytechnic and the University of York. John Barrow studied with Geoffrey Gilbert - one of the foremost flute players of the 20th century - at the Royal College of Music and has played in most British orchestras.
- Do you belong to any professional organisations?
I belong to the Musicians' Union
- Tell me about some of your current students.
I teach piano/keyboard from 5 years and upwards. I teach children and adults (my oldest student is in their 80s!) and I teach all standards. I teach flute from 7 years and upwards. I teach children and adults up to ABRSM diploma standard. I have taught students successfully through diploma studies; one of my former students is now studying flute at a conservatoire in the UK.
