I am an experienced and fully qualified teacher who is passionate about sharing my love of music and the learning process. As an inclusive teacher and TeachFirst ambassador, I am friendly and approachable and believe strongly in the benefits of studying music, whether you want to learn seriously or just for fun!
I have two years experience teaching KS2 in a primary school, having qualified with TeachFirst (teachfirst.org.uk) and the University of Manchester. As such, I have a PGDE and QTS (qualified teacher status). The importance of training and qualifications to the quality of teaching cannot be underestimated and I'm really grateful for the chance I had to develop my teaching technique and gain two years of full time experience working in a classroom. As a class teacher, I was responsible for teaching all subjects including art, music, PE, English, maths, science and the humanities. I left full time teaching this summer to move into consultancy work and I'm keen to maintain my teaching skills by finding some private teaching and tutoring work.
Prior to taking a job as a primary teacher, I was a professional violinist and viola player, working as a freelancer with various orchestras and bands across the country. I was also a member of Southbank Sinfonia (southbanksinfonia.co.uk). I trained as a musician at the Royal Northern College of Music and the University of Manchester and have a Master's degree at distinction level in solo performance. I have 10 years of experience teaching violin, viola and piano.
I pride myself as an inclusive teacher; everyone has something to learn from the process of learning an instrument, and I enjoy helping people fulfil their potential and get what they want from the learning process. As such I have extensive experience in teaching children with learning difficulties, both as a music teacher and an academic tutor. I have also taught adults of all ages.
